Marc P. Krol

On Sunday evening, Nov. 12, 2023, Marc P. Krol, age 71, of Middlefield, graduated from his earthly trials to a better realm.

Marc was born in Cleveland, on March 28, 1952, to Peter N. Krol and Jeanne (nee Martiny) Krol, both deceased.

Marc was a retired member of Auburn Volunteer Fire Department, having served as firefighter, and fire safety inspector, and had also served as a police officer in Bentleyville, Ohio.

Marc held a private pilot license and was also a licensed locksmith.

In 2010, Marc retired from AT&T as a member of the company’s Pioneers, after 40 years employed in telecommunications in various capacities.

As a licensed Extra class amateur radio operator (call sign W8KME, formerly KD8QJK), he was a member of American Radio Relay League, Geauga Amateur Radio Association and Geauga County Amateur Radio Emergency Services. He served as a volunteer examiner and trained as a Skywarn Storm Spotter, making many weather reports directly to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

He also made daily precipitation reports to CoCoRaHS for over 3,000 consecutive days.

Marc was a member of the Historical Engine Society (former longtime treasurer), Ohio Cavy Club (former director), American Cavy Breeders Association, American Rabbit Breeders Association, Middlefield Historical Society and many others.

He was a music lover, playing drums in a rock band during high school.

He graduated from Bedford High School in 1970. Later in life he enjoyed playing bass guitar in the band Copper Kettle. His favorite artists were Led Zeppelin, Steve Winwood and Chardon Polka Band.

Marc loved to tinker and fix things, whether cars, tractors, clocks, appliances, electrical circuitry or anything else, even if he first had to do research on how to do it. If he couldn’t fix it, it really was broken!

Marc is survived by his other half, Diana J. Cathan; brother, Scott (Danielle) Krol, of Hartville; nephew, Zachary (Erin) Cline; plus many friends who miss him very much.

A private burial service was held Nov. 17, 2023, at Middlefield Cemetery, his final resting place.

Arrangements were made by Sly Family Funeral Home, Middlefield.
