The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 1 to Dec. 7.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Dec. 5
12:25 p.m., Dusty Lane, Chardon. Caller has an Emu in his yard. Caller feels uncomfortable going outside. Deputies spoke with caller. Unable to locate Emu in nearby woods. Residents did call the Farm Parks to see if they would come and get it. The Emu has been in the area since last Sunday. Also contacted Game Warden.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Dec. 1
12:26 p.m., GAR Highway, Dollar General, Montville. Customer dispute involving cashier and customer. Wearing a Cheetos multi-color windbreaker and jeans. Caller states the customer will stay until police arrive. Dispute over customer using the self check out and the cashier then helping by
having the customer ring up her items with the cashier. No crime committed. Cashier did not suspect female of theft. Female believed cashier was racially profiling her.
Dec. 5
4:14 p.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Previous tenant has been evicted but is back on the property in the house and garage. Parties are yelling at one another but no violence. Person is taking a baseball bat toward the apartment in question. Going up to the door with the bat, friend is yelling to stay away from the house. Tenant was evicted on Dec. 1 and returned to get his property. Landlord who lives on property wanted him to leave. Agreement was made for former tenant to leave and not return.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Dec. 7
1:34 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson Elementary, Munson. Justice played with the kids at recess.
FOUND PROPERTY
Dec. 1
12:44 p.m., Claridon Troy Road, Claridon. Caller states he found $500 in a bank envelope at the self check out at Walmart in Middlefield and didn’t realize it until he got home. Entered into evidence.
ROAD RAGE
Dec. 2
6:29 p.m., Water Street and Loreto Drive, Chardon. Caller is in a red Dodge 1500. A white male in a red Suburban SUV. He states a male struck his vehicle. He is now out of his vehicle punching the windshield of the caller’s vehicle. Caller is behind a fire truck he’s going to try and pull into Sheetz. Red Suburban pulled into McDonalds. Second caller got license plate. The red Suburban is now pulling into Sheetz near the caller. Two witnesses. Refer to prosecutor.
SUSPICIOUS
Dec. 3
Met with caller who advised he returned home today and found his back door open. Thought this was strange due to the recent thefts in the area. I found no evidence that the door was forced open. I also observed the door leading into the house has an open porch and at times today there were high wind gusts. I found evidence the house was entered. I asked if we could sit in his driveway to monitor the area. Told me that we could.
Dec. 4
11:40 a.m., Mayfield and Madison Road, Huntsburg. There is a blue house on Route 322 across from the town hall, and there is a dog on the roof that climbed out of a window. Responded to location and noticed the dog on the roof and back inside residence. Spoke to the neighbor who contacted the owner and advised. Owner will leave work early. Dog owner will respond back home to handle. Dog currently back inside residence. Cleared.
Dec. 6
12:01 p.m., Patch Road, Parkman. Vehicle driving back and forth in front of the school, small black car. Vehicle has been in the area five minutes stopping in front of the school. Male got out of the vehicle, then got back in and drove away. This occurred a week. Unkown if same vehicle.
THEFT
Dec. 1
8:44 a.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. 4-wheeler stolen from garage. Caller has subject on camera. Dark gray 2023 Can Am Outlander 850 stolen from residence. Report taken.
Dec. 3
7:22 a.m., Newcomb Road, Parkman. Missing four bows taken out of the garage. Caller will be going to church and would like an extra patrol in the area until he can make a report later today. Three different Hoyt bows taken from outbuilding on property close to road. Bow owners/victims were not on scene, but info was gathered. Report to follow.
Dec. 3
9:41 p.m., Tavern Road, Parkman. Caller reports theft four battery tools (rip saw, miter saw, stihl saw, sander), leaf blower and compressor. Happened within the last 24 hours. Unknown exactly when happened. Items were in the mini shed, which was unlocked.
Dec. 4
10:04 a.m., Tavern Road, Parkman. Stolen tools from a trailer in the driveway. Theft of tools from work trailer. Report taken.
Dec. 4
4:16 p.m., Sidley Road, Thompson. Theft of a trailer. Sixteen foot enclosed trailer, black with silver on the front. On camera, unknown description, can’t access the cameras. Lock was cut off. Side by side, and a 4-wheeler inside. Owner is en route with the camera footage. Investigation pending. Per Ravenna PD, trailer was not at the address provided to them.
THREATENING
Dec. 5
12:23 a.m., Auburn and Chardon Road, Chardon. Male on the line states his nephew has been threatening him stating he is going to show up and “kick his ass and rip his face off.” Male refusing to give his home address. Male is demanding a deputy sit at the corner of the intersection to watch for the vehicle. Unkown if he has a weapon. He has brass knuckles and knives. Runs drugs up in Hambden. If a deputy sits over by Reels and hears a loud truck, it’ll be him. Would like deputy to come to his house and press charges. Upon arrival, showed me a text message stating that he is a crackhead. Then showed me a text from unknown person that call him a b****. Asked me to leave when I told him the two messages were not threats.
WEAPON OFFENSE
Dec. 2
12:07 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Caller heard two shots and went back to check his woods. Male was standing by a dead deer in his woods. There is another male with a skid steer to get the deer on caller’s property. He told them to leave and they drove off on the skid steer. Loaded the deer in a Ford Crew Cab white F350 black dump trailer heading towards Bass Lake; it has a loud exhaust. West on Pekin did not turn on Bass Lake.
