Margaret Mary Wishart
Veteran horsewoman Margaret Mary “Meg” Wishart passed away peacefully Feb. 17, 2024, at home from a short illness.
Meg was born July 29, 1947, at Sharon General Hospital in Pennsylvania, to Arch and Helen C. Wishart of Hermitage, Pa.
She graduated from Hickory High School in 1965 and received her nursing training at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio.
After graduation, Meg moved to Cleveland to work at University Hospitals Babies and Children’s Hospital.
She and her partner, Jeffrey Wilson, bought a home in Austinburg Township in 1975 where she rode and trained event horses until 2022, competing at preliminary level in horse trials from Michigan to New York, accompanied by her mother and sisters.
She was a registered nurse with Lake Hospital for more than 40 years until her retirement at age 70, spending most of those years working midnight shift in the intensive care unit.
Meg is survived by her partner of 54 years; sisters, Jess Wishart (Stanley Trout), of Montville Township, and Ann Wishart (Karl Glaser), of Newbury Township; cousin, Betsy Hutcheson, of Rocky River; sister-in-law, Linda Wishart, of Mercer, Pa.; aunt, Carolyn Arthur, of California; five nieces; and her dogs, Mikey and Gracie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Peter Wishart, of Mercer, Pa.; uncle, Anthony Arthur, of California; and many beloved horses, dogs and cats.
