Dorothy R. Campbell
Dorothy R. Campbell (nee Vargo), 93 years old, of Burton, formerly a 60-year resident of Chester Township, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, May 14, 2024, at Ohman Family Living at Blossom in Huntsburg Township.
She was born in Cleveland, on April 6, 1931, to the late William and Rose (nee Strichko) Vargo.
She is once again reunited with her loving husband of 64 years, William “Bill” L. Campbell, who died Dec. 17, 2017.
She worked for Burroughs Corporation, in Cleveland, where she met her husband, Bill.
Dorothy was a perfect example of a dedicated wife and mother of four daughters. She was an inspiration to her entire family and everyone she met.
Dorothy was outgoing and loving and always the person everyone went to for advice. She always had the right words for guidance and support.
Dorothy was truly the matriarch of the family.
As a teenager, she became a devoted Catholic and lived her life as a living example of faith in God. She volunteered for hospice and at the Geauga County Senior Center. Dorothy also volunteered for the Woman’s Guild at St. Anselm’s Church.
Her hobbies were antiquing, gardening, sewing, rug hooking, rug braiding, reupholstering, refinishing furniture and thrifting. Dorothy also enjoyed traveling, cooking and baking. She loved entertaining and hosting gatherings of family and friends. Dorothy was well-known for all of her perfectly and coordinated parties and was known as her family’s personal “Martha Stewart”.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her daughters, Kathleen (Kenny) Hoar, Laura (Tom) Ross, Patricia (Raymond) Loomis, Jane (William) Heiden; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, William Vargo Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Takacs and Sandra DiSanto; and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband; and parents.
A memorial mass was be held May 18, 2024, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Newbury Township. Inurnment followed in Chester Township Cemetery.
