Mobile Library Visits Munson Elementary

The Geauga County Public Library mobile Fun Bus recently visited first-grade students at Munson Elementary School to help them connect to their reading of “My Librarian is a Camel.”

The classes have read the nonfiction text and “traveled” to countries like Australia, Finland and Kenya to find out how the children in those places receive their books.

“We have learned about semi-truck libraries, book boats, camel libraries and many more,” first-grade teacher Jeana Hardman said.

The classes of Mrs. Hardman, Mrs. Jennifer McClintock and Mrs. Holly Suszynski listened to staff members from the library’s Chardon branch and mobile services as they spoke about how they service readers throughout Geauga County. They also read a book to the classes and gave students coloring books and applications for library cards.

Teachers Present at State Conference

Chardon Middle School seventh-grade math teachers Stephanie Steinmetz and Mrs. Stephanie Curitore recently presented their Baseball Project at the 74th annual Conference for the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics in Columbus.

The team presented the project, which uses the statistics of current Major League Baseball players, to teach students probability and statistics standards. The project recently culminated with the middle school’s Baseball Day.

Steinmetz and Curitore’s conference session was enthusiastically attended by Ohio-based middle and high school math teachers who answered baseball trivia questions, created probability models based on the statistics of Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez and shared materials.

In addition to presenting, Steinmetz and Curitore attended several sessions with fifth-grade teacher Beverly Mysyk to continue to enhance and extend their lessons. The trio is excited to share their new knowledge with the math department and students at the middle school.
