CMS Celebrates Heart Day
Fourth-graders at Chardon Middle School recently celebrated Heart Day as they completed their unit on what it means to have a great heart, literally and figuratively.
Students participated in several heart-related activities including yoga, a cardio exercise session and making a heart-shaped bird feeder.
Additionally, students heard presentations from several parents and community members who spoke about their careers related to heart health including nurses, pharmacists and emergency medical technicians.
Leading up to Heart Day, students collected change for a fundraiser to benefit the Children’s Heart Foundation, ultimately raising over $1,600. Thank you to volunteers from the CMS Parent Teacher Organization, who helped count all that change and assisted with the Heart Day activities.
Language Arts Live
Students in Mr. Robert Goff’s and Mrs. Lynn Monaco’s ELA courses recently heard from a panel of speakers regarding how knowledge in the classroom can translate to the professional world.
Language Arts Live is a speaker program that provides students examples of how the knowledge they acquire in the classroom translates to the professional world.
The objective of the program is for students to better understand the various reading, writing and communications skills as well as 21st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and creativity, which they are currently learning.
Through the program, parents and community professionals visited the classes and participated in a panel discussion regarding the use of language and communication skills in various settings.
On Nov. 15, Mr. Goff and Mrs. Monaco welcomed B. Norcini, J. Roessner, J. Wise and A. Zeiger into their senior ELA courses.
Norcini, senior director of customer experience at Solon Manufacturing, shared insights from her more than 20 years in manufacturing and leadership. Roessner, a journeyman lineman and union officer with IBEW Local 71, discussed his extensive experience in telecommunications and government affairs. Wise, chief technology architect at CESMII, spoke about his contributions to digital manufacturing, including patents and industry leadership. Zeiger, a pediatric nurse practitioner at Cleveland Clinic with 27 years of experience, shared her expertise in critical care and education.
