Myron Lee Welch

Myron Lee Welch, 78, of Hambden Township, peacefully passed away at home on Dec. 24, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on April 5, 1946, to John Lee and Rita Ann (nee Weiss) Welch in East Cleveland, Myron lived a life filled with love, service and devotion to his family.

Myron proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years, with his service taking him as far as Berlin.

After returning home in 1968, he met the love of his life, Darlene Stuper, during an outing with friends. Their romance blossomed and they were married on May 8, 1971, at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Willowick, Ohio. Together, they built a warm and loving home in Hambden Township, raising three cherished daughters.

A man of unrelenting work ethic, Myron often held multiple jobs to ensure his family was well taken care of. His professional focus was in business finance and he excelled as a branch manager at Geauga National Bank before dedicating 16 years to Dunbar Armored. Myron’s knack for budgeting and frugality was legendary, yet his generosity and willingness to help others were boundless.

An avid Cleveland sports fan, Myron never missed a chance to cheer on his beloved teams.

He was a passionate historian with a deep appreciation for World War II and Civil War history. His love for history even shaped his honeymoon with Darlene where they visited Gettysburg.

Myron cherished fishing with his brother-in-law Larry and found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his daughters. Myron always made them feel loved, whether through a shared laugh, a heartfelt conversation, or taking them out of school for breakfasts at the Maple Leaf.

Myron is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Darlene Welch; daughters, Laura (Ryan) Holtz, of Elyria, Diane (Scott) Kankula, of Chardon, and Karen (Nikola) Mucic, of Montville Township; grandchildren, Scott Jr. (Savannah) Kankula, Megan Kankula, Natalie Kankula, and Everlee Mucic. He also will be greatly missed by his great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Andrew Welch; and grandson James Kankula.
