BOE Recognizes Doug Snyder
The Chardon Board of Education recognized long-time Athletic Director Doug Snyder for his significant contributions to district athletics during its meeting on June 23.
Snyder, who retired on May 30 after 15 years as Chardon athletic director and 24 years with the district, received a commendation from the board in recognition of his commitment to Hilltopper student-athletes.
“He has tirelessly worked on behalf of our student-athletes,” Superintendent Michael Hanlon said. “We’re one of the most highly regarded athletic programs in the area due in no small part to Doug’s efforts.”
During his tenure, Chardon High School claimed three Ohio High School Athletic Association state championships, two in football and one in baseball.
Hanlon also credited Snyder for the significant expansion of varsity sports offered at CHS. Under his leadership, the school added several sports, including boys and girls swimming and boys and girls lacrosse teams.
Snyder also oversaw several improvements to the infrastructure of Chardon Athletics. Under his tutelage, the district expanded game accessibility for parents, guardians and fans by implementing live streaming and extensive social media coverage. He also managed facility upgrades at Chardon Memorial Field, the Chardon High School gymnasium and the baseball and softball fields at Munson Township Park.
“It’s been a privilege,” Snyder said. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to have served a generation of Hilltoppers, the district, the community and our board of education. We’ve been through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. It’s been my pleasure.”
Going forward, Chardon Athletics will be led by Doug Higham. Higham joined Chardon Schools in 2015 and has served in several leadership positions. Most recently, he served as the lead administrator at Chardon Early Learning Center and as assistant athletic director.
