Walter McMaster
Walter McMaster, age 90, of Chardon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2025.
Born on Aug. 5, 1935, in Chardon, Ohio, Walter was one of 12 children and the youngest son in his family.
A 1955 graduate of Chardon High School, Walter was known in his youth for his love of basketball and easygoing nature—a trait that followed him throughout his life.
Shortly after high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1961. Walter went on to work at Lubrizol, where he served as a foreman in the mechanical engineering department for 35 years. His colleagues knew him as dependable, hardworking and kind—a man well-liked by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Though he achieved much in his career and military service, Walter’s greatest joy in life came from his family. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Erin, whom he proudly supported through years of showing Arabian horses. As a grandfather to four, he rarely missed a sporting event or activity, always present with pride and encouragement.
Walter was also a passionate golfer and a founding member of the Munson YMCA, where he discovered a love for yoga later in life.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Erin (Jim) Romask; cherished grandchildren, Nick, Madison, Mike and Sarah; and sisters, Mary Day and Linda Carmigiano.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Ann (nee Pate); and son, Corey.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, followed by a memorial service. A procession to Maple Hill Cemetery will take place immediately after for final interment.
Walter will be remembered for his warmth, dedication and unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength and quiet humility.
