Donna Rae Adcock
Donna Rae Adcock (nee Alvord), age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Dec. 23, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio. She leaves behind a legacy of love, quiet strength, resilience and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Donna was born on Sept. 28, 1950, in Chardon, Ohio, to Merton and Eunice Alvord.
She graduated from Cardinal High School in Middlefield, Ohio, in 1968, where she was active in sports, cheerleading, and the National Honor Society. She went on to attend The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in 1973. While at Ohio State, Donna was a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and a lifelong, devoted fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Donna dedicated her professional life to helping others. She began her career at Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, working in the burn unit, where her compassion, courage and care brought comfort to children and families during their most difficult moments.
Later, she served for more than 30 years as a secretary at William Fremd High School, where she became a trusted presence and beloved member of the school community. In addition to her role in the main office, Donna proudly served as a pom (dance) team coach for many years, mentoring and inspiring countless students through dedication, encouragement and leadership.
In recognition of her outstanding service and commitment to education, she received the Those Who Excel Award from the Illinois State Board of Education in 2024.
Throughout her life, Donna made homes in several communities, including Martinez, Calif., Rolling Meadows, Ill., Zionsville, Ind., and Palatine, Ill. Wherever she lived, she created a welcoming home rooted in love, perseverance and warmth.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Merton and Eunice Alvord; her brother, Tommy Alvord; and her many beloved aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her cherished children, Jason Adcock (Tricia) and Megan Anderson; and by her adored grandchildren, Madison, Tyler, Cole, Jaxon and Trey, who were the greatest joys of her life.
She is also survived by her siblings Jan Gorse (Bill), Bob Alvord (Barbara), Marcia Nedved (Ken) and her twin brother, Doug Alvord (Brenda); along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Donna will be remembered for her warmth, humility and inner strength, and for the way she lifted others through encouragement, patience and love. She believed deeply in embracing life’s twists and turns, often reminding others that “difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.” Her steady presence, generous heart and belief in the power of kindness will continue to guide and inspire all who knew her.
Memorial calling hours will be held at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, Ohio, on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, from 12-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service celebrating Donna’s life at 2 p.m.
A celebration of life to follow in the spring of 2026 in Illinois, where she made her home.
