Bonnie Kay Thomas

Bonnie Kay Thomas, lovingly known for her warmth, strength and unwavering devotion to family, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

She was born on June 23, 1945, to Victor and Minerva (née Swortz) Bietzle.

Bonnie graduated from Willoughby South High School in 1963 and, the following year, married the love of her life, Alexander Eugene “Bud” Thomas. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work and togetherness.

Earlier in her life, Bonnie worked as a switchboard operator at Geauga Hospital, where her friendly voice and dependable nature made her a valued presence.

Outside of work, she enjoyed an active social life, including many years playing in a softball league. She was also well known in her neighborhood for her immaculate lawn—often setting the standard for others. If she had a free moment, you could be sure she was outside tending to it with pride.

Bonnie was the heart of her family—the true matriarch who always knew the plan and brought everyone together. Whether it was a holiday gathering or a simple family event, she was the one people turned to for coordination, guidance and care. Being in her presence was a celebration in itself—her warmth, generosity, and selflessness left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She expressed her love through food, especially her homemade pizza and baked goods. Bonnie found great joy in baking rolls and bread, often sharing them with friends and neighbors, spreading kindness in the simplest and most meaningful ways.

Bonnie is survived by her loving sons, Mark (Cindy Keller) Thomas and Jason Thomas; her grandson, Jacob Thomas; her granddaughter, Alanna (Christopher) Hunt; and her great-grandson, Iver.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Thomas; and her parents, Victor and Minerva Bietzle.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.

Bonnie’s legacy of love, generosity and dedication to family will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Arrangements are entrusted to The Original Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.burrservice.com.
