Oluic Brings Integrity, Service

I would like to share my perspective on Steve Oulic, who is currently seeking election as Geauga County Commissioner. I have known Steve for the past 12 years and during that time I have come to know him not only as a public servant, but also as a man of character, integrity and genuine concern for others.

Steve spent 27 years serving in the United States Army as an Engineer Officer, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He is a combat veteran who deployed to Iraq in 2008 during the Global War on Terror, where he served in the Directorate of Border Enforcement and the National Police, MNSTCI–IRAQ.

His military career also included teaching as a professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. After retiring in 2010, he continued contributing to the community through his work as a dean at Lakeland Community College.

His commitment to service has extended beyond his military and academic roles. Steve served five years as Geauga County’s water director and currently serves as chairman of the Geauga County Board of Mental Health. He also volunteers as Quartermaster for both the Chardon VFW and the Chardon American Legion. In every position, he has shown consistent dedication to helping others.

As someone who also served 27 years in the Army and recently completed a five-year term as a Geauga County Veterans Service Commissioner, I value leadership, integrity and service. These are qualities I have consistently observed in Steve throughout the years we have known each other. This letter reflects my personal endorsement of the values he represents—values that veterans across Geauga County recognize as essential in any principled leader.

Oluic is the CHAOS Candidate

Steve Oluic is challenging incumbent Republican Geauga County Commissioner Jim Dvorak in the May 5 primary election. Oluic is claiming integrity and no more status quo, which is interesting.

I have filed a complaint with the Ohio Secretary of State Election Integrity Unit because Oluic’s signs are unlawful; so much for integrity when his campaign signs and literature are unlawfully designed in order to deceive voters.

Oluic’s version of no more status quo translates into Oluic Cannot Handle Anything Operating Smoothly, i.e. CHAOS.

Oluic is the chaos candidate as reflected by his “leadership” on the Board of Mental Health.  Oluic is backed by the Claypool Chaos Crew, which can now add the resignation of the 20-year director of GMHA to their ‘No More Status Quo,’ a.k.a., CHAOS resume.

If the status quo is a smooth operating government, then give me the status quo. The smooth operation of our county government is what has led to a new county administration building and operational renovation of our county courthouse.

On May 5, I will vote for incumbent Republican County Commissioner Jim Dvorak.

Dvorak is Geauga

Once again our current County Commissioner Jim Dvorak has an opponent running against him, Steve Oluic. I don’t know much about Oluic other than some controversies—a Russian-based hack of emails along with  investigations by Geauga prosecutor, FBI and U.S. Secret Service—surrounding his time running the Geauga County Department of Water Resources, from which he resigned. So, I’ll stick to Jim!

Dvorak has made Geauga his home for over 40 years, so I’d say he’s invested in our county.  Jim was a bricklayer by trade and in the 1980s was an instructor for the trade at Auburn Career Center. He was a Burton Township Trustee for over 10 years.

In 2019, he was elected as a Geauga County Commissioner and is now running for a third term. He’s been a great commissioner, always fiscally conservative, as well as accessible, encouraging his constituents to call him anytime with questions or concerns.

After losing his daughter to a drug overdose, Jim worked tirelessly on making the Red Tulip House (Geauga’s first facility for women recovering from opioid addiction) a reality.

As a member of the Burton-Middlefield Rotary, Jim’s work on the “Jeep Invasion” project helped to fund the Geauga County Veterans Food Pantry.

In 2023, the Geauga Public Library partnered with Dvorak and unveiled the library’s Veterans Resource Center, where our veterans can get support, resources and services.

I could go on, but I’ll leave you with the following: Geauga County Auditor Chuck Walder once said Dvorak has an “incredible work ethic.” And, in Jim’s own words, “I enjoy doing good, positive things for Geauga County. Making them better for the next generation.”

Jim Dvorak has the values we need and must retain. Jim Dvorak is Geauga!
