William Martin Grattino

William Martin Grattino, age 87, of Montville Township, Ohio, peacefully passed away at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in Chardon, Ohio, on May 4, 2026.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio on Sept. 6, 1938, Bill was the beloved son of Florence and Margaret (nee Minute) Grattino.

He graduated from Kenston High School in 1957 and later attended John Carroll University. A hardworking man with a kind and generous spirit, Bill built a life centered around faith, family and service to others.

Bill married the love of his life, Mary Ann Stepic, and together they lovingly raised six children. Their marriage was one of devotion, laughter, sacrifice and deep love until her passing on Feb. 7, 2009. Though he missed her dearly every day afterward, he carried her memory with him always.

Bill spent many years living in Maple Heights, Ohio, before moving to Montville Township in 2003. He was a proud Master Mechanic for Heavy Equipment with Union Local 18 in Cleveland, where he was also a very active and respected union member.

There was seemingly no machine he could not fix. Friends and family often marveled at his ability to repair just about anything with determination, ingenuity and sometimes a little duct tape — one of his favorite tools. He genuinely loved working with his hands and took pride in helping others whenever something needed fixing.

Beyond his mechanical talents, Bill had a softer side that those closest to him treasured deeply. He was a wonderful baker who enjoyed sharing his creations with family and friends. He was also a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Thompson Township, Ohio, where his faith remained a steady and guiding presence throughout his life.

Above all else, Bill will be remembered for his generous, loving heart. He was the kind of man who quietly showed up when someone needed help, offered what he had without hesitation and loved his family fiercely. His strength, warmth, humor and steady presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving children, Mary (Mark) Grattino, of Mantua, Ohio, Debra Johnson, of Parma, Ohio, Anthony Grattino, of Twinsburg, Ohio, James (Nancy) Grattino, of Walton Hills, Ohio, John (Deanne) Grattino, of Montville, and Thomas (Kathy) Grattino, of Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio; brother Joseph Grattino, of Burton, Ohio; grandchildren, Jamie, Sara, Jimmy and Gianna Grattino, and Luke and Hailey Johnson; and great-grandchildren, MJ Tucker and Violet Martin.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Grattino; his parents; brothers Michael and John Grattino; and grandson Christian Grattino.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 4-8 p.m. on May 11, 2026, at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on May 12, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road, Thompson.

Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 480 West Highland Road, Northfield, Ohio.
