Marvin Lee Howard

Marvin Lee Howard, known to many as Marv, passed away at his home on May 10, 2026, in Concord Township, Ohio, at the age of 84.

He was born on June 28, 1941, in Mapletown, Pa., and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family and a warm sense of humor that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Marvin was the beloved husband of Eleanor (nee Medor) Howard, also known as “Tina,” for 60 years and a devoted father to Shandel (Joe) Perron, Lee Ann Tackla (Mark Bowdell), Anmarie (Jeff) Basco, Susan Tenon (Gregory Boru) and Jennifer (Joe) Somrak.

He was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to 20 great-grandchildren. His family was the center of his world and he gave them his time, his guidance, and his unconditional love throughout his life.

He also is survived by his brother, Paul (Roxanne) Howard, and will be remembered by many nieces and nephews whose lives he touched with kindness and steady encouragement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosella Mae (nee Shoenberger) Howard and James Oscar Howard; and by several siblings who held a special place in his heart, including James Earl (Gayle) Howard, Melvin (Joy) Howard, his twin sister, Marlene Howard, and John (Karen) Howard. Their memories remained important to him throughout his life and he carried their influence with him in the way he lived, worked and cared for others.

Marvin graduated from Mapletown High School in 1959 and soon after began a life of service and skilled labor that would define much of his adult years. He spent four years in the United States Air Force in Limestone, Maine, where he served his country with pride and discipline.

Following his military service, he worked for 33 years as a union electrician with The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 673. He was respected for his strong work ethic, his dependability and the knowledge he shared with others. He was the kind of man who could fix what was broken, offer practical advice and do so with a sense of humor that made even difficult days easier to bear.

Outside of work, Marvin was a social member of VFW Post 2595 and valued the fellowship and camaraderie that came with being part of that community. He looked forward to his yearly hunting trip and spent many hours hunting from the tree stand on his property.

He also had a deep appreciation for farming and gardening and he found joy in the rhythms of hard work and sharing the fruits of his labor with anyone who stopped by during harvest time.

He loved giving advice, sharing stories and asking questions, always driven by an insatiable curiosity about the world and the people around him.

Those who knew him best will remember that he was funny, handy and wise, with a personality that could lighten a room and a presence that brought comfort and confidence to those around him.

Above all else, Marvin was completely dedicated to his family. He showed his love through his actions, his loyalty and the countless everyday moments that become a lifetime of treasured memories. He offered guidance when it was needed, laughter when it was welcome and strength when others needed support. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the many lives he influenced through his example of perseverance, humility and devotion.

Marv will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was one of purpose, service and enduring family devotion, and his memory will continue to bring comfort to those who carry him in their hearts.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 18, 2026, from 4-6 p.m. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. The funeral service will immediately follow, beginning at 6 p.m.
