A Mantua man was killed in a two-vehicle crash May 28 on U.S. Route 422 in Auburn Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday, a white 2025 Yamaha motorcycle, driven by Monte Stamm, 45, of Mantua, was traveling east on Route 422 behind a white 2021 Ram pickup, driven by Mark Ackworth, 56, of Hubbard, Ohio.
“The motorcycle struck the rear of the pickup truck, ejecting the driver,” said Lt. Larry Jones in a press release. “The driver of the motorcycle, Monte Stamm, was transported to (University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center) by Auburn Township EMS where he succumbed to his injuries.”
Ackworth was transported UHGMC by Newbury Township EMS for minor injuries, Jones said in the release.
Stamm was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and Ackworth was wearing his seatbelt, Jones said, adding the crash remains under investigation.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, he added in the release.
Fire department/EMS personnel from Auburn Township and Newbury Township, as well as the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted on scene.
