William Thomas Amberik

William Thomas Amberik, 72, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026.

He was born on May 25, 1954, at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Ohio to William and Winifred (née Hunn) Amberik.

Bill was the oldest and only son among four children. From an early age, he developed a lifelong passion for automobiles, especially Mopars. As a teenager, he purchased a 1972 Plymouth Duster that remained one of his most cherished possessions throughout his life. He spent countless hours attending drag races at Thompson Raceway Park, admiring the cars he loved and sharing that enthusiasm with family and friends.

A proud member of the Eagles Club in Chardon, William enjoyed participating in the club’s softball league and spent many years bowling in local leagues.

Golf, however, became his favorite pastime. He belonged to two golf leagues and had a deep passion for golf. He looked forward to spending time on the course, enjoying both the challenge of the game and the friendships he built through it.

Like many devoted Cleveland sports fans, William experienced every season with equal parts hope, excitement and heartbreak. Whether cheering on his favorite teams or discussing the latest game, he remained loyal through every victory and defeat.

William worked alongside his father for many years before beginning a career in maintenance with Swagelok, where he worked until his retirement.

While he enjoyed his hobbies and friendships, his greatest joy came later in life when he became a grandfather. His role quickly evolved into that of “Super Grandpa.” He could be found at nearly every sporting event and extracurricular activity, proudly supporting his grandchildren and celebrating their accomplishments.

Bill appreciated the simple things in life. Family gatherings were among his favorite occasions. Surrounded by his many family and friends, every gathering was filled with laughter, good company and plenty of food. He was happiest spending time with those he loved, often patiently waiting for the meal to be served while enjoying the conversations around him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Winifred Amberik; and by his beloved wife, Terry Amberik (née Gibson).

He is survived by his daughters, Kelly (Kevin) Roesch and Hillary Amberik; his sisters, Rebecca (Sheldon) McCartney, Kate (Pete) Weybrecht and Dorothy (Jim) Thompson; his cherished grandchildren, Kai, Kennedy and Keiran Roesch; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation June 5, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, Ohio. Visitation will continue June 6, from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by procession to Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township, Ohio.

Bill’s legacy lives on through the family he adored, the friends who knew him and the countless memories made on golf courses, at ball fields, around dinner tables and wherever there was a Cleveland game on television. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Arrangements are entrusted to The Original Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.burrservice.com.
