The Killed in Action memorial on Chardon Square will be updated in the near future to include the name of a Newbury Township resident previously left off the plaque, following Geauga County Commissioners’ approval Oct. 15. Resident Sue Mullett, who has pushed for the new plaque, provided background on the effort to honor Cpl. Robert Scheidel, who enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps May 11, 1967, and was killed April 11, 1969, in A Shau Valley. “When Newbury put in the veterans park, I wanted to put something there as a KIA memorial and I knew of three,” she said....
