Diana Darlene Duhl
Diana Darlene Duhl, passed away on Oct. 25, 2026, in Chardon, Ohio, at Mapleview Country Villa, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Her final days were spent surrounded by family hearing them share memories, laughter and love.
Born on Dec. 13, 1947, in Ravenswood, W. Va., raised in Portland, Ohio, along the Ohio River, she had a close bond with her brothers and cousins beginning a legacy of caring for her family and a love for being outdoors.
Diana pursued a career as a registered nurse, a profession that reflected her compassionate nature and her desire to care for others. Through her work, she touched lives with patience, dignity and understanding. Her nursing career was more than a job; it was an expression of who she was at her core. She offered comfort in difficult moments and brought reassurance to those in need, leaving behind a legacy of service and humanity that will not be forgotten. Even in the throws of Alzheimer’s, we witnessed her desire to care for others she came across.
Outside of her work, Diana found joy in the beauty of the world around her. She loved the Appalachian Trail, having hiked large portions two times (trail name Dorothy).
Birding was another favorite pastime as well as working in her yard (she never met a weed she couldn’t conquer!) and walking her dog Lance to visit her brother Danny.
In quieter moments, Diana liked reading, completing jigsaw puzzles and Sudoku, the harder the better. She could often be found enjoying a large bowl of ice cream after a busy day in the yard (or just because).
Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Ilah Roush.
She is survived by her brothers, Denny (Susan), Danny (Wendy) and Darrell. Also surviving are her children, Michael Duhl, Sarah Wichert (Eric) and Emily Smith; as well as her beloved grandchildren, Kieran, Jacob, Jordyn, Abigail, William, Ethan and Owen. Each grandchild brought her great pride and joy. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Sir Lancelot.
Her love for her family was steadfast and enduring, and her memory will remain a source of comfort and connection for those she leaves behind.
As Diana’s life was one of quiet devotion and love for simple things, the family asks that you honor Diana’s legacy by enjoying a walk outdoors, definitely eating some ice cream, working a really hard Sudoku and enjoying a good jigsaw puzzle or a good book.
Per her wishes, no services will be held and final arrangements handled by the Original Burr Funeral Home in Chardon, Ohio.
The family will honor her at a later time, likely involving ice cream and nature in some way.
