Russian Scholar Laureate
James Hogan has been selected as an American Council of Teacher of Russian Scholar Laureate for 2012. He is a member of a highly select group of 41 Russian students from secondary schools all over the United States all of whom were selected by their teachers and principals as the most outstanding Russian student of 2012 at their schools. James was recognized with a certificate and special lapel pin. Mr. Ted Krejsa is James’ Russian teacher.
“Once On This Island, Jr.”
Kenston Middle School will be presenting the musical, “Once on this Island, Jr.,” on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. at the Kenston High School auditorium.
With its poignant story and catchy Caribbean flavored score, “Once on this Island, Jr.” is a feast for the heart, mind and soul. The highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.
The show tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.
Tickets will be available at the door the night of the show. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
