PTO Scholarships Available
Each of Chardon’s elementary school PTOs offers a $500 scholarship to any Chardon High School senior who attended that school for at least three years. Scholarship applications are available in the guidance office at Chardon High School.
The deadline to apply is the end of February. Please call the CHS guidance office at 440-286-0423 with any questions.
One School, One Book
All students and staff at Park Elementary School have started reading “Stone Fox” by John Reynolds Gardiner. The book is about a boy named Little Willy who enters a dog sled race in order to win $500 to pay back the taxes on his grandfather’s farm.
It is written in simple prose and is set in the American Old West. The book was inspired by a Rocky Mountain legend that Gardiner heard when he visited Idaho.
The students are reading one chapter of the book each day and engaging in special classroom discussions and exciting activities that enhance student learning. Building activities include a kickoff dog sledding assembly, snowshoeing activity, visiting dog for the day, daily trivia question contest, writing activities, and mystery readers found at www.parkschoollibrary.org.
A special “thank you” goes to the Park PTO for purchasing each student a copy of the book to keep at the end of the all-school activity.
Father/Daughter Dance
Munson PTO is hosting a father/daughter dance for all girls attending Munson Elementary School on Feb. 9 from 6-8 pm. The evening will include a live disc jockey and refreshments. Each daughter will receive a special corsage.
Admission is $2.50. Pictures will be available at an extra charge.
Don’t miss this night to remember.
Friendship Grams At Maple
Maple Student Council members will be selling heart shaped Friendship Grams during lunches for 50 cents each. Each student will receive a piece of candy for every heart purchased.
Students are encouraged to write a little note on the heart to a friend or teacher. The hearts will be hung on the gym wall for the month of February.
Friendship Grams can be purchased from Feb. 8-14. The money raised will be donated to Geauga Job and Family Services.
Career Day At CMS
The Chardon Middle School guidance department recently hosted a Career Day for the school’s seventh-graders. The day featured guest presenters with backgrounds in emergency medicine, construction, law, firefighting, engineering, research, education, banking, social work, K-9 search and rescue, law enforcement and cosmetology. Each presenter conducted multiple sessions during the morning event.
Carol Caldwell, CMS counselor, said that the students are very inquisitive and enjoy interacting with a variety of professionals and leaders from the community. Mrs. Caldwell stated that Career Day helps students recognize the connection between a good education and rewarding careers.
Mardi Gras Magic
Hambden PTO is excited to be hosting its first Mardi Gras Magic, an evening reverse raffle. This fun, adults-only night will raise dollars to continue adding to the Playground Renovation Fund at the school.
Local auctioneer Scott Mihalic will be auctioning and emceeing for the evening. The catered dinner, open bar and festivities will be held on Feb. 16 at the Huntsburg Township Community Center, 12406 Madison Road.
For information, or to purchase tickets, call Lisa Bross at 216-408-3292 or email hambdenpto@live.com.
