Westwood ACE Award Winners
Congratulations go out to the ACE Award winners for the fourth quarter at Westwood Elementary School. Students awarded by their teachers for demonstrating positive attitude, citizenship and effort in the classroom include:
Kindergartners: Angelina Insana, Isabella Zaffiro, Laura Ward, Gavin Clark, Chaise Harris, Kayden Reese, Craig Strawinski and Mikaela Greer;
First-graders: Natalie George, Zachary Slay, Olivia Skutt, Brody Gruber, Carson Weisman and Grace Gannon;
Second-graders: Ella Carcelli, Romy Jones, Clayton Reed, Anthony Sassano, Hannah Whitmer, Bryn Morgan and Lydia Hanna;
Third-graders: Megan Conrad, Dominic Cavelli, Mackenzie Hoover, Dylan Higgins, Dylan Frank, Isabella Maguire, Nick Cryst and Jessica Varga;
Fourth-graders: Mary Brookes, Bryan Hann, Anthony Formichelli, Ryan Spencer, Emily Vash, Mia McGroarty, Chris Moore and Sophia Zaremba;
Fifth-graders: Zoe Meyers, Allison George, Alyssa Morgano, Sam Oliverio, Harrison Gruber, Octavya Dottore and Tommy Owendoff.
WG Kiwanis Middle School Students of the Month
West Geauga Kiwanis Club recognized West Geauga Middle School eighth-graders Anthony Brocone, Matt Fazio, Matt Palmer and Jessica Sargent as Students of the Month for March, April, May and June, respectively. They all have numerous accomplishments.
Athletically, Anthony Brocone has been a member of the track team. Academically, he has been a member of the Honor Roll and 4.0 Club. In his spare time, he volunteers at St. Augustus Church and a day care center.
Matt Fazio, athletically, has been a member of the basketball, track and cross country teams. Academically, he is achieved Honor Roll and 4.0 grade point average. In his spare time, he volunteered at Rescue Village.
Athletically, Matt Palmer has been a member of the track and cross country teams. He has also participated in the Soccer Cleveland Select, WG travel, and WG recreation soccer teams. Academically, he has achieved Honor Roll and a 4.0 GPA. In his spare time, he has been involved in the OMEA Honor Band, the OMEA Solo and Ensemble Superior Rating for alto sax and the jazz band. He has also participated in the Drug Awareness Leadership Camp in 2012.
Jessica Sargent, athletically, has been a member of cross country, basketball and track teams. Academically, she is a member of the Honor Roll and 4.0 Club. In her spare time, Jessica has volunteered at Community Bible School.
West Geauga Kiwanis High School Students Of The Month
West Geauga Kiwanis has named Michael Girbino, Mary Catherine Drockton and Karly Krebs Students of the Month for March, April and May, respectively.
Michael Girbino’s school activities include co-captain of the Robotics Club, Latin Club, cross country and track. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. Some of his honors include a perfect score at State Science Day 2011, winning a robotics competition at Penn State in 2011, and as a team in Lakeland in 2012. He is an AP scholar with honors and helped the Latin Club place first at the Ohio Jr. Classical League competition in 2012. He was summa cum laude four years in a row on the National Latin Exam. He will be attending Case Western Reserve University on an engineering scholarship.
Mary Catherine Drockton is co-president of the National Honor Society, participated in the marching and symphonic bands and was invited to play in the CVC Honors Band (flute and piccolo) for the third year, and participated in Freshman Mentoring, Interact Club, Key Club, and Academic Challenge/Academic Decathlon. Some of her honors are Music/Band Book Award, Smith College Book Award, All Ohio Academic Soccer Award, and John Phillips Sousa Band Award. She will be attending the honors college at the University of Akron.
Karly Krebs’ school activities include National Honor Society, Student Council, Latin Club, H.U.G.S., Teacher Aid, Math Lab tutor, volleyball and basketball. She has participated in Tutor for Homework Help with Hands On Northeast Ohio, “Breathe” at Fellowship Bible Church, the West Geauga Kiwanis Club’s Pancake Breakfast, Burton Fire Department pancake breakfast, Pleasant Hills Nursing Home, and Fieldstone Farm. She has earned a Special Mention Book Award for English, a Certificate of Achievement in both 2012 and 2013 Science Fair and Certificate of honorable merit of magna cum laude for the National Latin Exam. She will be attending Roanoke College with a scholarship in the honors program.
