National Geographic Bee
Emily Allegretti, a fifth-grader at Lindsey Elementary School, was a semifinalist in the 2013 Ohio National Geographic Bee, which took place in Columbus on April 5.
Emily won the Lindsey Elementary Geographic Bee in December 2012. She then took a qualifying test, which was submitted to the National Geographic Society in January 2013.
The National Geographic Society invited the students from each state with the top 100 scores to compete at the state level. Emily did a wonderful job. There were 12 students answering all eight correct in the preliminary round. Emily was in the next group of 21 students who answered seven correctly. This put her in the top third and just missing the finals. She was up against students from grades 48, with the majority of the students being in middle school.
