Smilemakers
Kindergartners who work hard to be good friends, follow the school rules, concentrate on learning and put a smile on everyone’s face are honored with the “Smile Maker” award by Principal Marilyn Kahle. Three kindergarten classes were recognized this month, including students in Mrs. Karla Gerhard, Mrs. Terri Kempski and Mrs. Betsy Hope’s afternoon classes.

KHS Math Teacher Honored
Kenston High School math teacher Pamela Garrett was presented with an Outstanding High School Mathematics Educator Award by the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics at its awards banquet. Mrs. Garrett was one of five high school teachers in the greater Cleveland area to be recognized for her dedication to mathematics education, both inside and outside the classroom.
During her tenure at Kenston High School, Mrs. Garrett has been instrumental in the development of several new programs in the math department. Over the last 10 years, she has developed the statistics program, writing curriculum for and implementing courses in introductory statistics and Advanced Placement statistics.
Mrs. Garrett’s instructional strategies for her classroom are designed to engage her students in problem solving, reasoning, communicating and modeling mathematics. All of her lessons incorporate the use of technology.
Outside of the classroom, she is actively involved in her own professional development. For the past three summers, she has been a reader for the AP statistics exam. Mrs. Garrett has also helped facilitate at the Common Core Workshops offered by GCCTM and OCTM.
