Chardon Trash Pickup
The City of Chardon is joining forces with the Geauga County Department on Aging for the 2013 City of Chardon Trash Collection Days June 18-20.
To register for trash pickup, individuals must be 60 years of age or older and live in the City of Chardon. The Department on Aging, along with its volunteers, will remove unwanted items from the garage or home of Chardon City senior citizens on June 18-21. Universal Disposal will be picking up items curbside on June 22.
No brush, leaves, grass clippings, or other yard waste will be collected. Hazardous materials (household chemicals, paint, oil, batteries), tires, food waste, rocks, bricks, concrete and metal items over 4 feet in length will not be collected.
Appliances with Freon will be collected. Doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers.
Small items must be bagged, boxed or bundled – no loose materials will be collected. Lumber must be bundled and tied in lengths less than 3 feet, and metal pipes shall be no longer than 4 feet. No car parts, fuel tanks or whole motor vehicles will be collected.
There is a limit of 10 items per household and all items must come from the seniors home.
Seniors must be registered with the Department on Aging prior to pickup and must be home the day of the pickup, or have someone 18 or older that is appointed by the senior present to sign a release for collection.

Collection is scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please have the following information available: seniors name, address, phone number, date of birth and a list of items needing to be removed.
Senior Golf Outing
The Geauga Senior Board of Trustees is hosting a summer golf outing June 19 at Grandview Golf Club. Registration is at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Cost is $23 for nine holes of golf, a cart and lunch. Mail or drop off a check made payable to the Geauga Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon, OH 44024, by June 18. Mark envelope golf.

Senior Information Guide
Geauga County Department on Aging is offering a senior citizen information guide to Geauga County seniors 60 and older. The free tri-fold offers information on just about every area of senior living.
Inside this packet seniors will find information on the services offered by the Department on Aging, including: home delivered meals, in county transportation, out of county medical transportation (Escort), chore and home maintenance, adult day care, senior center sites and more. The sheets also offer times, locations and additional descriptions on each program.
There is also information on programs and services offered by outside organizations, including: assisted living facilities, long term care facilities, emergency response systems, PASSPORT, respite, home health care and much more. Each sheet offers phone numbers, addresses and more.

Run or Walk for Health
The Geauga County Department on Aging in conjunction with University Hospitals Geauga Medical Campus is holding the 2013 Shake, Rattle & Run 5K run/walk timed event and 1-mile fun run/walk on June 28.
The event will be held at West Geauga Senior Center located at 11414 Caves Road in Chesterland. The day of the race registration tables open at 8:30 a.m. and the race starts 10 a.m. A post race awards reception will be held in the pavilion immediately following the race with prizes, food and T-shirts Registration is $10 per person.
There are many race categories for individuals and teams made up of five runners, with the top four scores counting. Teams range from businesses, schools, safety forces, health care, local families and more.
