Off to See the Wizard

The yellow brick road will lead some familiar characters to Chardon as Geauga Lyric Theater Guild presents “The Wizard of Oz,” which opens on May 2 at the Geauga Theater. After a tornado whisks Dorothy Gale away to the magical Land of Oz, she begins her quest to find the mighty Wizard of Oz who has the power to send her home. Along the way she meets a Scarecrow, a Tin Woodsman and a Cowardly Lion who help her on her journey.

The popular musical is based on the beloved movie classic, which celebrated its 75th anniversary this year. The talented ensemble cast, directed by John Ballantyne, includes Allison Lehr as Dorothy, John Kolar as the Scarecrow, Justin Simons as the Tin Woodsman, Peter Percassi as the Lion, Angela Percassi as the Wicked Witch, Jessica Boalt as Glinda and Mark Miloro as the Wizard.

Sponsored by GEM Electric, written by Frank L. Baum with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen & E.Y. Harburg, background music by Herbert Stothart, based on the classical motion picture owned by Turner Entertainment Co. and distributed by Warner Bros., the show will run May 2-18.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and a special rate of $10 for children ages 12 and under.
