@HeaderML:In Honor of Those
Who Have Served
To honor those who have served our country and commemorate the months of Memorial Day and Flag Day, Geauga Park District will dedicate its two new flags with color guards on May 30. All Geauga veterans are invited to attend.
Ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. at Headwaters Park, 13365 Old State Road in Huntsburg Township and at about 11:30 a.m. at Chickagami Park, 17858 Tavern Road in Parkman Township.
Two volunteers will sing the national anthem and the American Legion Burton Post will present the colors in both locations.
Nature Notes
Enjoy eight great musical acts on Saturdays this summer and early fall in the charming amphitheater outside Big Creek Park’s Meyer Center, 9160 Robinson Road in Chardon Township. All shows are from 7-8:30 p.m.
On tap this year are Joey Tomsick & the JTO (polka) on May 31; Fort Huntsburg Band (classic country) on June 14; Hootenanny Sing-along (folk music sing-along) on June 28; Up River (celtic, bluegrass and folk) on July 12; Borger & The Blues Forgers (traditional trio blues, with acoustic opening act Paul “Blue Pike” Pira) on July 26; Erie Heights Brass Ensemble on Aug. 9; Quad Pro Quo & Mo’ (barbershop quartets) on Aug. 23; and Top Dog (party and dance rock) on Sept. 6.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket, or just sit on the leveled seating. Refreshments will be served. Inclement weather moves the shows indoors.
‘…To Get to the Other Side’
Late spring is turtles-in-the-road time. That’s because hen turtles are ranging sometimes far from water to find a sunny spot with soft soil to lay eggs. Find out more about these annual “eggs-cursions” and learn about Geauga County’s various turtle species.
Why’d the Turtle Cross the Road? takes place May 29 from 7-8:30 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.
In addition to classroom time, hopes are to stage a turtle race so the reptiles themselves can demonstrate their range and speed of movement.
Registration is not required.
