Trash and Treasure Sale
Parkman Congregational Church is holding its annual Trash and Treasure Sale July 31 to Aug. 1 at the church located at 18265 Madison Road.
Hours are Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shoppers enjoy half off specials Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and then everything is free from 12:30-3 p.m.

Free Community Breakfast
The Men of Ledgewood Christian Church are hosting their free monthly community breakfast July 19 from 8-10:30 a.m. at 8261 Kinsman Road in Russell Township. The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and beverages. Breakfast is open to the public.
GCRTA Annual Picnic
The Geauga County Retired Teachers’ Association will hold its annual picnic on Aug. 5 at Swine Creek Park’s Lake Side Shelter located at 15900 Hayes Road in Middlefield. Gathering time will begin at 11:15 a.m., followed by the business meeting at 11:30 a.m., and lunch at noon.
Please bring a dish to share and a place setting. Nancy Speck’s pulled pork sandwiches and beverages will be provided.
After the meal, the grant-in-aid recipients will be introduced and presented with their awards.

The association will be accepting donations of flour or kidney beans for The Geauga County Hunger Task Force, as well as school supplies for Geauga students.

Antique Power & Steam Show
The Historical Engine Society will be holding its 44th annual Antique Power and Steam Exhibition July 25-27 at Century Village Museum in Burton. On display will be demonstrations of various types of antique machinery, such as steam engines, stationary and portable gas engines, tractors, excavating and construction equipment, grain threshing, sawmilling, cars and trucks and blacksmithing.
There will also be a parade of machinery through downtown Burton Saturday and Sunday mornings, children’s rides on Murphy’s Railroad and open house tours of Century Village’s restored homes and shops.
Friday is a preview and setup day with reduced admission. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $2 Friday and $6 Saturday and Sunday.

Emerald Rose Zucchini Festival
The third annual Zucchini Festival presented by the Emerald Rose Corp. will be held Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Chardon Square. Free and open to the public, the event features a variety of activities suited to the entire family, including games, crafters, raffle, food vendors and a pancake breakfast.
There will be a zucchini cook-off and growing and decorating contests, as well as the first annual Zucchini Idol talent contest Saturday afternoon. Auditions for the idol talent contest will be held Aug. 9 in the Chardon Library from noon to 4:30 p.m. Entry fee is $10.
Proceeds benefit the capital campaign for the Emerald Fields of Troy, a planned $4 million facility serving people impaired with mental disorders.

Meat and Cheese Raffle
The American Legion, Geauga County Council is holding a meat and cheese raffle July 26 at Newbury American Legion Post 663, 11008 Kinsman Road. Raffles start at 4:30 p.m. and continue every 10 minutes until all the fresh beef, pork, cheese and smokeys are gone.
Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served in the pavilion.

Town Hall Discussion Set
Geauga County Democratic Women’s Caucus is sponsoring a town hall discussion, “Hope For Ohio,” on July 17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road, Chagrin Falls. Discussion begins at 7 p.m.
Meet Sharen Neuhardt, candidate for lieutenant governor; Sen. Nina Turner, candidate for secretary of state; and Rep. Connie Pillich, candidate for state treasurer.

Parkman Community Picnic
The Parkman Community picnic will be held July 19 from 5-8 p.m. at Overlook Park on State Route 168. Please bring a dish to share. The Chamber of Commerce will provide burgers, hot dogs, beverages, sno-cones, cotton candy, popcorn and paper products. There will be a bounce house for the kids as well as corn hole and carnival games.

Geauga Beekeepers Meet
The Geauga County Beekeepers Association will hold its annual picnic July 20 from noon to 4:30 p.m. at the Rookery, 12474 Heath Road, Chester Township. Bring a dish to share along with eating utensils.
Discussion will be on things needed to do for the Great Geauga County Fair.

Kelly Miller Circus
Come one, come all to watch the Kelly Miller Circus July 18 at the West Geauga High School, 13401 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township.
At 8 a.m., the circus will be setting up and the public is welcome to come and watch the unloading of the equipment and the animals. The elephants help raise the Big Top and guided tours are given to let everyone take part in the excitement.
Performance times are 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. It is a two-hour show with clowns, aerialists, amazing feats of daring and coordination and performing animals. Bring the family for a spectacular show.
Advance ticket prices are $10 for adults and $6 for children under 12 and are available at Discount Drug Mart locations in Chester Township, Bainbridge, Highland Heights and Mentor and at 10 West Salon in Chagrin Falls. Tickets at the gate are $15 for adults and $7 for children under 12.

Apples and Autos Car Show
The Northern Chapter, Ohio Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America is sponsoring its annual Apples and Autos Car Show at Patterson Fruit Farm, 11414 Caves Road, Chester Township. This show, which originated at Alpine Valley, returned to Chester several years ago.
This event typically showcases more early cars, including those from the classic era of the 1920s and 1930s.
There will be 19 judged classes with awards for the first three places plus Best of Show, Children’s Choice, Chief Judge’s and the Patterson Fruit Farm awards.
Gates will open at 8 a.m., with cars on the field by 10 a.m. for judging. The awards ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available, as will trailer parking. Preregistration for show cars is $12 if received by Aug. 10 and $15 received later or at the gate. All occupants of show cars will be admitted free. Registration forms are available at Patterson Fruit Farm, NAPA and Federated Auto Parts.

Food Pantry Open
The Chester Christian Center A/G Church food pantry will be open to the community on July 25 from 10 a.m. to noon. The pantry is open to anyone who is in need of food. One does not need to be a member of the church to come to the pantry. Chester Christian Center A/G is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.
Conservative Forum Meets
The Geauga Conservative Forum will meet at 6 p.m. July 17 at Sunnybrook Preserve on Heath Road in Chester Township. A light supper will be served followed by a variety of speakers.

Scrap Tire Collection
Troy Township will host its sixth annual scrap tire collection event July 26, from 8 am to noon. Tires will be collected in the parking lot behind the Community House located at 13950 Main Market Road.
Bring identification to verify Troy Township residency; IDs will be checked. Passenger vehicle and small truck/SUV tires only. No semi or tractor tires accepted. A maximum of eight tires per household. Tires must be off rims.
The event is made possible through a grant received from the Geauga Trumbull Waste Management District.

Geauga Co. Tea Party
Phil Burress, president of Citizens for Community Values, will be the featured speaker at the next meeting of the Geauga County Tea Party taking place at 7 p.m. July 17 at the West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.
Burress will discuss how to reach voters who are generally poorly informed about candidates and issues.

Food Drive July 18
The Chardon Kiwanis Club will be collecting donations for the Pilgrim Christian Church Food Pantry during the July 18 Concert in the Park on Chardon Square, from 7-9 p.m. Donations can be brought to the Log Cabin and may include non-perishable food items, toiletries and cash.

Donations for Dogs
The Geauga County Dog Warden needs some dog food (canned and dry), bleach and hot dogs (to hide pills). They get in more than 700 dogs a year. Any unused flea or dog medications can be used.
