422 Exit Ramp to Close for 30 Days
Crews working on the U.S. 422 minor rehabilitation project will close the U.S. 422 eastbound exit ramp to state Route 44 for 30 days on Aug. 25.
The closure is necessary as crews will be rebuilding this exit ramp as part of the project, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation District 12 office.
During the closure, motorists will detour via U.S. 422 eastbound to state Route 700 south to state Route 82 west to Route 44.
Currently, all lanes of traffic are shifted onto U.S. 422 westbound. One lane of traffic is maintained in each direction utilizing a “contraflow” traffic pattern.
Portable concrete barriers are being used to separate east and westbound traffic while one lane of U.S. 422 eastbound is shifted onto the westbound side of the highway.
This configuration allows the contractor to have full access to a safe work zone during all phases of construction.
The entire project rehabilitates U.S. 422 between state Route 306 and Route 44, including replacing the Route 44 entrance ramp to U.S. 422 westbound that took place this spring and replacing the U.S. 422 eastbound exit ramp to Route 44, in Bainbridge and Auburn townships.
Grand Jury Indicts Accused Kidnapper
A Geauga County grand jury has returned a four-count indictment against the Middlefield Township man accused of kidnapping a 2-year-old Aug. 11.
Seth Malko, 21, of 14911 Hayes Road, has been charged with kidnapping, a first-degree felony; burglary, a second-degree felony; abduction, a third-degree felony; and trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely present, a fourth-degree fel-ony.
Malko currently is in the county jail on a $150,000 cash or surety bond.
A date for his preliminary hearing and arraignment in the Geauga County Court of Common Pleas has not been set.
Malko reportedly entered a residence through an unlocked sliding door at Applewood Apartments on the corner of Kinsman and Hayes roads late Aug. 10, saw a 2-year-old child asleep on a couch, picked him up and left, Geauga County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Scott Hilden-brand said last week.
He was arrested after he flagged a woman in a car down and allegedly tried to hand the baby through the car window to the woman.
Hildenbrand said Malko reportedly told deputies he had been smoking marijuana earlier that night that was laced with methamphetamines.
