Steeple Fund Craft Show

Pilgrim Christian Church will hold its first annual Steeple Fund Craft Show and bake sale Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its fellowship hall at 202 S. Hambden St. in Chardon.

Artisans and crafters are invited to reserve a 9×6-foot space with an 8-foot table for $35. Space without a table is $30. All proceeds will be applied to the steeple fund to renovate the church tower and replace the bell and spire on the steeple.

Stop by the church to fill out a form and pay by Oct. 4. A limited number of spaces with electricity are available on a first-come basis.

Newbury Kiwanis Clam Bake

The Kiwanis Club of Newbury is hosting its annual clam bake on Oct. 4 at the Rookery in Newbury. Bill Prots is catering. Presale tickets only are available at Middlefield Bank in Newbury or by calling 440-829-7171.

Geauga Beekeepers Meet

The Geauga County Beekeepers Association will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Kent State University Burton Campus, 11141 Claridon-Troy Road.

Rich Manley will speak about preparing for winter. Dale Olson, Carl Bizilla and Gene Mccune will speak on several topics and the Geauga County Fair will be discussed.

The public is welcome; refreshments will be served.

Geauga County Tea Party

Judge Tim Grendell will explain his actions and those of the Geauga County Park Board during a Geauga County Tea Party meeting that begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the West Woods Nature Centerm 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township. Come and listen to his side of the story.

Parkman Historical Society

A presentation on Parkman Chamber of Commerce will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at Parkman Community House on State Road 422.

Experience Australia at the Pines

Prudy Hall, Hiram College professor emerita, will share photos and observations from her travels in Australia at 1 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Pines at Brooks House Assisted Living located at 18122 Claridon-Troy Road, Hiram, in Troy Township. Refreshments will follow.

Sisters of ND BBQ, Boutique

The Sisters of Notre Dame will host their annual barbecue and boutique Sept. 21 and 28, rain or shine, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin campus, 13000 Auburn Road in Munson Township. There will be a boutique, country store, children’s games and raffles.

Tickets are available at the door at a cost of $12 for barbecue chicken and $15 for a half slab of ribs.

Proceeds support the ongoing missions of the Sisters of Notre Dame.

WomenSafe Luncheon

A luncheon to benefit WomenSafe will take place Sept. 28 from noon to 3:30 p.m. at Acacia Reservation, 26899 Cedar Road in Lyndhurst.

In addition to the luncheon, the event will feature a fashion show of black and white couture, Chinese auction and silent auction.

Cost is $38 per person or $304 for a table of eight. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Proceeds will assist WomenSafe, a Northeast Ohio domestic violence shelter.

Century Village Clam Bake

Geauga County Historical Society is hosting a Century Village Museum clam bake fund-raiser Sept. 20 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Lennah Bond Buildng.

Cost is $30. Add a steak for $5 and/or a dozen clams for $10.

Community Flower Show

The Perennial Gardeners of Chesterland are presenting a small standard flower show at the Geauga West Library on Sept. 27, from 1-5 p.m. and Sept. 28, from 1-3 p.m. The theme is “A Perennial Tale, Stories in Full Bloom.”

Featured will be floral designs created by club members based on children’s literature. Also expect to see a wide variety of horticultural specimens.

The show is free and open to the public. PGC members will be on hand to answer questions and light refreshments will be provided.

The club meets the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. at West Geauga Middle School. Membership is open to those living in the West Geauga Local School District.

DTJ Trash and Treasure

DTJ Taborville is holding its 10th annual flea market Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be concessions and a bake sale, too.

Spaces are available for vendors, crafters and farmers to rent. Cost is $18.

Free Airplane Rides, Pancakes

Geauga County Airport Day is Sept. 20 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the airport located at 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield. Free Young Eagle airplane rides will be offered to first time flyers ages 8-17 with parental consent from 8-11 a.m.

There will be a welcoming ceremony at noon. The event features aircraft on display and demonstrations.

An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served from 7-11 a.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for youth ages 2-11.

Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a welcoming ceremony at noon.

Parking and admission are free. Bring lawn chairs and be prepared for the weather.

Pig Roast Dinner

Newbury American Legion Post 663 is hosting its fifth annual pig roast dinner Sept. 27 from 4-7 p.m. in the Hunter pavilion behind the post located at 11008 Kinsman Road in Newbury. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets are half price for children 12 and under or they can receive a free hot dog dinner with soft drink.

There will also be a pie auction and a 50/50 raffle.

Plant Giveaway

Peace Lutheran Church will be holding a plant giveaway on its front lawn Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until plants are gone. There will be a great selection of free perennials, shrubs, trees and bulbs.

Free hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn and beverages will also be available.

Any cash donations to help with the church’s parking lot fundraising efforts will be appreciated.

The church reserves the right to limit quantities. The church is located at 12686 Bass Lake Road in Munson Township.

Free Community Breakfast

Ledgewood Christian Church is hosting its free monthly community breakfast Sept. 20 from 8-10:30 a.m. at 8261 Kinsman Road in Russell Township. The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and orange juice along with milk and equal exchange coffee. Breakfast is offered the third Saturday of each month.

Democratic Women’s Caucus

The Geauga County Democratic Women’s Caucus is having a wine and chocolate party at Fantasy Candies, 5338 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst, at 7 p.m. Sept. 24.

GCRTA October Luncheon

The GCRTA will hold a luncheon meeting Oct. 7 at Grand River Cellars Winery and Restaurant, 5750 Madison Road, in Madison.

Participants are asked to gather at 11:15 a.m., followed by a business meeting beginning at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon. A cash bar will be available for wine.

Robert Grau will be presenting the program, “Five Million Steps: Hiking Thru the Appalachian Trail.”

Amish Wedding Dinner

The Friends of WomenSafe annual Amish Wedding Dinner is Oct. 4 at Yoder’s Home Cooking, 14729 Patch Road, Burton. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner being served at 6 p.m.

For only $30 ($15 for children under 10), enjoy baked chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, seasonal vegetables, seven-layer salad, date pudding, and delicious home baked pie. There also will be a Chinese Auction as well as a 50/50 raffle.
