Grant Opportunity Available

The Geauga County Sunshine Shop Board is now accepting grant requests from Geauga County nonprofit organizations that serve individuals and families in crisis or in need.

A seven-member board governs the sunshine shop, which has been in operation for more than 30 years. It’s mission is to provide assistance to low income individuals and families residing in Geauga County.

Funds are raised through The Sunshine Thrift Shop located at the Geauga County Fairgrounds.

The sunshine shop sells donated clothing and household items.

Grant requests should be a single page and include the organization’s contact information, purpose or mission, who it serves, what the grant money would be used for and how much is being requested. Previous grant awards ranged from $500 to $1,500.

Requests should be mailed to: The Sunshine Shop Board, P.O Box 917, Burton, OH, 44021. The deadline has been extended. Requests must be postmarked by Oct. 8.

For additional information on the grant, contact Sara Shininger at 440-285-9141, ext. 1263.

Polling Location Changes

The Geauga County Board of Elections is changing several polling locations in the county for the Nov. 4 general election and for all future elections.

In Russell Township, voters who voted at Riverview Church will now be voting at the Russell Town Hall, 14890 Chillicothe Road, at the corner of routes 306 and 87.

In Bainbridge Township, voters who voted at Lord of Life Church will now vote at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road.

Finally, voters in Chardon City who voted at Chardon Methodist Church will be voting in Bldg. 8 at 470 Center St. at the Geauga County Office Complex on state Route 44 north of Chardon.

The board of elections made these changes to consolidate polling locations in an attempt to make access to voting more convenient for all voters, Director Roberta Halford said.

“As in many other counties in Ohio, it is difficult to locate polling locations to adequately provide accessible facilities for all voters and the board is constantly aware of the need for appropriate locations,” explained Halford.

All polls for the Nov. 4 general election will be open on election day from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

As in the past, absentee ballots will be available the month before the election. The Ohio Secretary of State’s office will be mailing applications to all registered voters in Ohio and Geauga voters can make use of these forms by filling out the application, signing it and returning it to the Geauga County Board of Elections office at 470 Center St., Bldg. 8, Chardon, OH 44024, either by mail or in person.

Absentee applications, voter registration applications, candidate lists and issues lists can be found on the Geauga County Board of Elections website, www.co.geauga.oh.us/Departments/BOE.

Middlefield Banc

Lists on NASDAQ

Shares of common stock of Middlefield Banc Corp., the bank holding company of The Middlefield Banking Company, began trading on the NASDAQ Capital Market stock exchange Sept. 10.

Shares of the company’s common stock will trade under the symbol “MBCN.”

“The listing of our common stock on NASDAQ represents another significant milestone in the 113-year history of The Middlefield Banking Company,” said Thomas G. Caldwell, president and CEO. “As we continue to grow and mature as a company, the NASDAQ listing will enable current and potential shareholders greater liquidity to trade in our stock, price visibility into the value of the Company and increased exposure of our company outside of our historical operating markets.”

Added Caldwell, “Listing our common stock on a national stock exchange is another important step in our strategic plan to position the company for the future.”
