Meal Delivery Drivers Needed

The Geauga County Department on Aging is in need of Home Delivered Meal drivers.

Once trained, volunteers can deliver meals as a substitute, once a month or as often as they would like. Many companies and/or civic groups work as a team, sending different individuals from their organization on a scheduled rotation. Because they alternate the drivers, a different driver can drive each week with the group determining the driving schedule.

The meal routes are delivered Monday through Friday, and usually take between one and a half to two hours from start to finish. Drivers are able to deliver lunch to 10 to 15 homebound seniors each shift.

Drivers must be 18 or older, have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

To volunteer, call the Geauga County Department on Aging at 440-279-2130, 440-564-7133 ext. 2130 or 440-834-1586, ext. 2130.

The program includes a performance by Tom Todd, a one-man band, followed by a brief meeting. Desserts will be served.

The final trip of the year is to Seneca Allegheny Casino in Salmanca, N.Y., on Oct. 22. Cost is $37 with a $20 slot bonus and $5 food bonus. A few seats are left; call Skip Ference at 440-338-3607 for reservations.

The group’s holiday party will be Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. at Sun Valley Party Center, 10000 Edwards Lane in Auburn Township. Tickets will be on sale at the October meeting or call Betty Scholz at 440-338-8321. The buffet dinner with dessert is $18 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Reservation deadline is Nov. 18.
