Dear Readers:
Hi, I’m Bridget, a junior. This is my first year at Ledgemont High School because I opened enrolled at Ledgemont this year. Last year, I went to a much larger school and didn’t have the opportunities I have at Ledgemont. It was a better decision to go to Ledgemont than the other schools that I have attended. I think more people should make the same choice that I did. Everyone here has been very welcoming, and I am really enjoying my junior year.
At Ledgemont, I participate in the work-study program, so I go to my classes until 12:08 p.m. Then I go to my job at Grandview Country Club, where I work in the Pro Shop. After I get off work, I go to practice, then home to complete my home-work and get ready to do it all over again the next day. I also volun-teer at the Geauga Dog Shelter in Chardon. I enjoy staying busy and believe it will help me be more prepared when I enter the workforce as an adult.
Since it’s my first year at Ledgemont, I have a different perspective than my teammates, who have grown up in the community. At my old school, it was harder to learn because every class was bigger. At Ledgemont, it’s smaller and it’s been easier for me to learn. There are fewer distractions and the teachers are always inviting us to stay after school if we need help or help us during their lunches. Everyone knows everyone.
I really love being a cheerleader because it builds my confidence. I’m grateful I could join the team even though I chose Ledgemont just before school started. My squad is like my second family already, and I could never have imagined how close we would become or how much I would love it. It’s a very different experience and I’ve come to learn that working together really means a lot! I can’t imagine not cheering at Ledgemont again next year. Please support us and make sure that this does not change!
This past Friday after school, we practiced our halftime routine, then boarded the bus to head to Vienna Mathews. Our captain, Kayla, brought everyone (including the football players and coaches) donuts, and I brought Taco Bell for the cheerleaders! While we rode the bus, we worked on this column on the hour ride.
At Vienna Mathews, it was their homecoming and it started raining… and raining… and raining. We started dancing and singing in the rain. It was a lot of fun! The boys played their hardest but fell short.
Our halftime show was a lot muddy and cold, but we still did our best to put on a great performance. As the rain continued, the game got muddier and muddier, but we never stopped rooting for our team. Everything was soaked! After the game, we helped the football team clean up their stuff before heading to the bus. It was a late night getting home and a very quiet bus ride.
Our next game will be at Grand Valley and we will be wearing my favorite colorpink! Be sure to wear your pink for Breast Cancer Awareness. We also have a special half-time performance planned.
Then in two weeks, we will be celebrating our homecoming. One of the special events will be our cheerleading camp called the Spirit Jam for all kids pre-k through sixth grade. The Spirit Jam is a chance for us to lead the younger kids in cheerleading, games and crafts. I haven’t been a part of one yet, but I am sure it will be an awesome experience.
The Spirit Jam is October 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school. For only $25, kids can get a full day of fun! And for a few dollars more, you can ride the cheerleading float and participate in half-time at the game that night. For more information and registration, contact our coach at robbiecheer@yahoo.com.
