Reported Fire Found To Be Overheated Compressor Machine
The Chardon Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at Web?Triax Corporation, 215 Fifth Ave. around noon Friday.
Upon arrival, fire crews only saw light smoke inside the building. The cause of the smoke was an intermittent overheating of hydraulic fluid from a compressor machine, said Fire Chief Larry Gaspar in a statement.
While on scene,?Gaspar had crews investigate the source of the problem and ventilate the smoke from the building.
The situation was brought under control in roughly 20 minutes, he said, adding there were no injuries, only slight damage to the machine and no damage to the building.
Munson and Hambden fire departments were on scene as well.

House Passes
Sales Tax Holiday
The Ohio House of Representatives passed legislation, Senate Bill 243, Dec. 10 that creates a sales tax holiday for all “back-to-school” shopping during the second weekend of August.
The bill establishes the tax exemption as a pilot program to be studied for potential future expansion.
“It is a fact of life in Northeast Ohio that families cross the border into Pennsylvania to do some shopping as they get ready to send their children back to school,” said state Rep. Patterson (D-Jefferson). “Everyone knows that just over the state line, the same clothing items can be purchased in many of the same stores without the burden of a sales tax.”
Patterson said Ohio retailers lose out when business is exported to our neighbors to the east.
“Most importantly, however, this is more about making necessary purchases more affordable for middle class families,” he said.
The legislation exempts clothing, school supplies and instructional materials from state and county sales and use taxes from Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, through Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015.
Under the bill, eligible clothing items are limited to $75 each, school supplies and instructional materials to $20 each.
The bill is expected to be sent to Gov. John Kasich for final approval shortly.
