Final Weekend to Rock-n-Roll at GLTG
Come out to Geauga Lyric Theater Guild and see Conrad Birdie on his farewell musical tour. Inspired by Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army, the satire on American society is set in 1958, crafted with the fondest affection and telling the story of a rock and roll singer who is about to be inducted into the Army.
“Conrad Birdie” is a word play on Conway Twitty, best known as country music star Elvis’ rock n roll rival in the late ’50s. “Bye Bye Birdie” is a funny, heart-warming musical comedy for the entire family.
While the show is part of Geauga Lyric Theater’s main season, it is also part of The Skip Kelley Youth Production Series, and so is acted entirely by teens and young adults 21 years and younger. Skip was a much loved tech director at GLTG, who believed that our youth could be as talented as adults in every aspect of theater, and encouraged them with affection, patience, and not a little discipline. Since his death in 2005, his name is still invoked by the now young adults and people who knew him as a measure of quality in workmanship.
Performances are Feb. 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. at Geauga Theater, located at 101 Water St. in Chardon.
Tickets are $14 and $10 for those 12 and under. For the final weekend of “Bye Bye Birdie,” call to reserve tickets and say “Conrad Birdie” and receive $2 off the regular ticket price.
