GEAUGA PARK DISTRICT

For more information, contact the park district at 440-286-9516 or visit www.geaugaparkdistrict.org.

Chickadee-Me

It’s taking flight on social media, the Chickadee-Me Selfie Challenge. The park district is challenging residents to hold a bird and take a selfie.

The goal is to spread the word about the awesome opportunity hand-feed chickadees at The West Woods, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

Head over to The West Woods and follow the instructions posted online at http://bit.ly/gpdwhatsnew or available at the front desk of the nature center. While there, snap a selfie with a bird in hand or on one’s head. Then, post that selfie to one’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the following message: “‘A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.’ I challenge NAME, NAME and NAME to take the #ChickadeeMe Selfie Challenge within the next week at The West Woods in Geauga Park District” and post their selfie to social media with this exact message and three new names.

Tree-Tapper’s Ball

It’s time for the 27th annual old-fashioned square dance to celebrate Geauga Park District tappin’ season.

Tree Tapper’s Ball is March 7 from 7:30-10:30 p.m. at Parkman Community House, 16295 Main Market in Parkman Township.

Returning to the ball is Bob Smakula, a professional instrument repairman from Elkins, W.Va., who will have soon called 24 of the 27 balls.

The Cordwood Cut-ups will provide old-time string band music for the whole family on fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, bass and harmonica. Steps will combine square and line dances. Old-time string music descends from British, Scotch and Irish traditions with regional variations in North America, but the Tree Tapper’s Ball tends to be a bit more southern in flavor.

Registration is open for the free event, limited to eight per registering party. Dancing is upstairs at Parkman Community House, which is not equipped with a ramp or elevator. Dress casually.
