Join Cancer Support Group

The University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center UH Geauga Medical Center offers education programs and support groups to the public at no charge.

A general cancer support group, providing opportunities to share common concerns and emotional support, will be held March 19 from noon to 1 p.m. at UH Geauga Medical Center, 13207 Ravenna Road in Chardon. Call 440-285-6251 for information and registration.

Conversation with Monica Robins

NAMI Geauga County executive director Dennis Michelson will turn the tables on WKYC’s senior health correspondent Monica Robins and interview her about the vast knowledge she has gleaned performing her job, especially as it relates to mental health and substance abuse. The NAMI Geauga County speaker meeting takes place March 26 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Notre Dame Education Center, 13000 Auburn Road in Chardon.

The event is free of charge, but reservations are required by visiting www.namigeauga.org or calling 440-286-3945. Light refreshments will be available.

Bloodmobile

American Red Cross blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors may give every 56 days and must bring some form of photo identification and a list of all current medications. Eligible donors with all types are needed, especially those with O negative, A negative and B negative.

Blood Pressure Screenings

Lake Health will offer free blood pressure checks at the Chardon Campus, 510 Fifth Ave., from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

2015 Immunization Clinics

The Geauga County General Health District offers free walk-in immunization clinics for children and adolescents through the age of 18. Residents must present an immunization record as well as a primary insurance card.

UH Hospice Volunteer Training

University Hospitals Hospice is seeking compassionate men and women to help enhance care and quality of life during life’s final stage. Hospice volunteers can visit hospice patients in nursing homes, UH Hospitals or patients’ homes near their communities, providing companionship and a listening ear to patients and their loved ones.

No medical background is required. Behind the scenes opportunities are also available. Greatest needs include: sewers and knitters; military veterans, active or reserve to assist in honoring patients who are veterans; and volunteers to visit patients for companionship and simple presence at the bedside.

Parents360 RX

Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers will host Parents360 RX at 5:30 p.m. April 30 at TriPoint Medical Center, Physician Pavilion – Lubrizol Conference Room, 7580 Auburn Road in Concord.

The community education program increases an adult’s knowledge of prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse in teens and increases confidence in their ability to speak with teens about the subject. For more information, email Elaine Maro at emaro@lgrc.us.
