Art and Wine Tasting Festival
July 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mantua’s seventh annual Art on the Hill and wine tasting festival will feature more than 80 artisans and four local wineries. East Prospect Street will be closed to traffic and open to artisans who will be on both sides of the street selling and displaying their handmade works of art.

The daylong street festival also attracts local food trucks and specialty vendors, live entertainment, activities, a photo contest and prize auction of local prizes and artwork.

Four local wineries will be in attendance offering samples and bottles for sale. Wine tasting is $10 for three tastes and includes a commemorative Art on the Hill wine glass. Additional tastes are available.

Admission and parking are free.

The festival is hosted by the Downtown Mantua Revitalization Corporation. For more information, contact festival organizer Christine Pitsinger at 330-414-6486.

GANG Goes to the Dogs
July 21, 6:30-8 p.m.

The Geauga Arts Network Group (GANG) program, which is open to the community, will take place at the Geauga County Dog Shelter & Warden’s facility at 12513 Merritt Road in Chardon.

Featured artist Anita Silverman will be doing quick sketches “on the spot” of dogs currently in residence.

Her drawings, in a variety of media including colored pencil, charcoal and marker, will go home with each dog, as adoptions occur.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a monetary donation for the shelter or a donation from its wish list, which includes leashes, collars, paper towels, Lysol, laundry soap, dryer sheets, Nature’s Miracle, straw, Pupperoni, rawhide and soft chewies.

For a complete list or to preview the dogs currently in residence, visit the Geauga County Dog Shelter page on Facebook and click on the www.petfinder.com link in the “About” summary on the left side of the page.

Although dog adoptions cannot be finalized that evening, Mary Bittence, the shelter’s fundraising and development volunteer, will be on hand to share information about the dogs, provide the necessary forms and accept deposits.

Light refreshments will be served as visitors stroll the grounds, following the artist as she works. Seating is limited so visitors are requested to bring their own folding chair.

A Chester Township resident life-long animal artist, Silverman works in a variety of media, including collage, memorial stones and “bling” jewelry crafted from natural objects such as beach glass.

She is a popular artist at fundraising events, where she donates her work to raise community awareness and appreciation of causes she fervently supports.

The GANG is an ad hoc group whose mission is to promote communication, collaboration and cooperation across artistic disciplines for artists living and/or working in Geauga County.
