GLTG Season Begins With ‘The 39 Steps’

Geauga Lyric Theater’s 61st season is opening with a classic on Friday. “The 39 Steps” may be familiar to some as an Alfred Hitchcock movie, but director Art Suskin loves the play.
According to Suskin, “There is surprising interplay of an exciting spy story with some of the silliest and funniest scenes you will ever see; four actors playing 120-plus roles at breakneck speed. What a delight,”
Caleb Venman plays Richard Hannay, while Cara Battaglia plays three characters. The “clowns” of the show, who rush from character to character, are Justin Simons and Evan Graham.
The show runs through Sept. 27, Fridays through Sundays.

Photographer/Painter Visits The Gang

Photographer and painter Frank Fende will talk about his influences and techniques as an artist at the monthly Geauga Arts Network Group (GANG) program. The educational program, which is free and open to the general public, will take place at Heinen’s Cafe, 402 Center St. in Chardon. No reservations are necessary.
A Chester Township resident for nearly 40 years, Fende’s favorite medium is watercolor, but he has experimented in a number of media, taking drawing and painting workshops to perfect his craft.
He began using photographic images to express his artistic vision. Fende’s photographic work recently won first place at the Geauga Council for Art and Culture’s (GCAC) annual show.
The program will explore both Fende’s paintings and his photographic work.
