Former Chardon Clerk Pleads Not Guilty

Nancy Link, a former City of Chardon accounting clerk, pleaded not guilty June 10 to two felony counts alleging she stole taxpayers money while working for the city’s water and sewer department.

Link, 38, of Mentor, stands accused of stealing about $35,000 between Jan. 15, 2014 and Feb. 26, 2016, said Geauga County Pro-secutor Jim Flaiz. Although the investigation is ongoing, Flaiz said evidence reveals discrepancies in the accounts dating back to 2010.

Sitting before Geauga County Common Pleas Court Judge Forrest W. Burt and next to her lawyer, Dan Williams, Link said, through tears, she understood the charges before her: one count of theft in office; two counts of tampering with records; and one count of money laundering. All are third-degree felonies.

Her case will move forward with Burt, who kept Link out of jail on a personal recognizance bond.

Chardon police say Shelden stabbed a 22-year-old at Cleats Club Seat Grille on South Street April 10 with a small knife after shouting at the victim across the bar.

He remains out on bond, but is not allowed to enter any bars.
