Most Valued Population

Every year, on the first Saturday in June, Newbury Township holds its annual clean-up day. Residents are encouraged to bring both their yard waste and discarded household items to the township maintenance garage for no fee disposal.

In conjunction with the township, the Geauga County Department on Aging provides home pickup assistance to Newbury’s seniors. This combined effort helps seniors dispose of items that might otherwise accumulate.

For this, and all of the services the department of aging provides, we’d like to thank them for their continued commitment to helping our most valued population.

If you haven’t registered with the department of aging, you can do so by calling (440) 564-7131.

The Mighty Oz

Judge Timothy Grendell continues to wield his sword of power and arrogance over the peons (the people) of Geauga County.

First, it seems, he fires or removes anyone he perceives as intelligent since it might threaten his ‘my way or the highway’ method of rule over the people and the Parks.

And now, Park Director John Oros has informed the people they can no longer speak at the so-called public Park Board meetings. That’s right, we now have no right to speak.

He is legally allowed to shut up public opinion at these meetings and has chosen to do so. Apparently, the all-knowing and all-powerful judge has no need for the opinions of mere citizens.

It is time to raise the curtain. He may despise the people, but he cannot silence them.

Bad Guys Beware

Regarding the recent terrorist attack in Orlando perpetrated by a radical It’slamic nut, I’ve only got three points to make:

1. If someone is being watched by the FBI and is on the “no fly” list, no guns for him. The agencies charged with protecting the American people need to share the information they have with each other.

2. The AR-15 may look like a military weapon, but it is not. It’s not a machine gun and is not used by any branch of the military.

3. I’ll hand over my guns when the bad guys hand over theirs. Until then, bad guys beware.

The unprecedented increase in gun sales over the last few years since 9/11 merely reflects a prototypical American trait: It may take a lot to provoke us, but eventually we shoot back.

Ill-Advised Fiasco

I feel that that you have not accurately kept up to date with the incompetence of the Thompson sewer project.

I have contacted Ann Wishart a few times about numerous mishaps in this township and county project to little reply. Her articles make everything seem that this has been a great boon for Thompson. Not even close. Only five property owners of 39 in the project have actually tied in to the main system, with numerous others balking or threatening to go to court not to tie in by the Aug. 2 deadline.

What does it take for you to not acknowledge the fact of a person dying in November 2014, due to lack of OHSA compliance by EnviroCom and Tom Hall Excavating, and a month later a senior citizen driving his vehicle into the same trench at the north end of the square due to removal of ODOT signage by the contractors?

I feel that you are a responsible publication with journalistic competence, but have sorely missed the boat on this Thompson and Geauga County misuse of taxpayers’ dollars and grants.

I personally met with Blake Rear and David Lair on my property on Oct. 5, 2015, and they seemed concerned, only to get the “company BS ” from Dave Lair in an email a week later.

I would welcome you the publisher to meet with me so I could personally show you the incompetence in this ill-advised fiasco.

Thank you for your time and consideration regarding these matters.
