The Geauga County Retired Teachers Association recently celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Fowlers Mill Golf Course Clubhouse on June 7. The special evening ceremony began at 4:30 p.m. with fellowship and business meeting, which was followed by dinner and a program with two featured speakers.

Dr. John Cavanaugh, executive director of Ohio Retired Teachers Association (ORTA), spoke about how ORTA is benefiting the members at the local levels. Dick Blake, an etiquette consultant and dance instructor, completed the evening speaking about the importance of displaying appropriate manners in social situations. Blake has been a consultant with The Cleveland Clinic, the U.S. Air Force and numerous corporations.

The GCRTA recognized the current and past presidents of the organization and offered sincere appreciation for their dedication and service. Special recognition was extended to member Cheryl Sekura, who was honored as Volunteer of the Year for her tireless efforts in recording and reporting legislative information to GCRTA members while also working diligently to help compile a comprehensive membership directory.
