Safety Council Meets
July 8, 11:15 a.m.

Geauga Safety Council will meet at Punderson Manor House for its 10th anniversary celebration. Presentation will be on “Special Investigations Department Overview.”

Reign Forecast Concert
July 8, 7-9 p.m.

Join for an evening of Christian music as the Chardon United Methodist Church’s house band, Reign Forecast, performs. The concert, part of the 2016 Concerts in the Park series, will take place on the Chardon Square, weather permitting. Bring friends and lawn chairs or blankets.

Free Fresh Produce
July 9, 9-11 a.m.

Newbury United Community Church, 14961 Auburn Road, will be hosting a fresh produce giveaway.

Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID and bags.

Distributions will continue the second Saturday of the month through November.

Geauga Bowmen Archery
July 9 & 10

Cookout and Shoot Out is July 9, with registration from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and July 10, with registration from 8 a.m. to noon, at Geauga Bowmen Archery 12525 Sperry Road in Chester Township.

All shoots are open to the public with equipment available. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for cubs. Food and refreshments available.

Warrior’s Journey Home
July 9, 4 p.m.

The Bainbridge Circle of the Warrior’s Journey Home Ministry is held the second Saturday of each month at Bainbridge Community United Church of Christ, 17751 Chillicothe Road.

The nonpolitical, nonsectarian ministry is dedicated to helping veterans transition from military life to civilian life. It also provides support to the needs and issues of children, youth and adults during the time when loved ones are on deployment.

CACC Car & Bike Show
July 10, 12-4 p.m.

The Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce will present its seventh annual car and bike show on Chardon Square.

The show kicks off with a blessing of the cars and will end with a prize and awards ceremony. All makes, models and years of cars and motorcycles will be on display.

Radio personality Brian Kelly of WKKY will be on hand with a live remote and music. The show will also feature food, Chinese auction, 50-50 raffle and more.

Entry fee is $10 per vehicle, with premium spots going to participants who preregister. Door prizes will be drawn for registrants, and dash plaques will be given to the first 75 vehicles. Proceeds from the show will benefit the chamber’s scholarship and community event funds.

Thompson/Ledgemont Reunion
July 10, 1 p.m.

The Thompson/Ledgemont Old Timers Reunion will be held at Montville Community Center, 9755 Madison Road in Montville Township. The reunion honors the class of 1966 and welcomes the class of 1976 for the first time.

Bring a dish to share and table service. Professional photography will be available.

Golf Outing Dinner
July 10

The Melzer-Smith Memorial Foundation golf outing takes place at Rolling Green Golf Club in Huntsburg. The event has reached its limit for golfers, but dinner tickets are still available for a half slab of ribs and chicken catered by Social Affairs Catering. Cost is $40 per person for dinner around 4:30 p.m.

Divine Word Rummage Sale
July 11-13

Divine Word Church is holding a rummage sale at 8100 Eagle Road in Kirtland. Sale takes place July 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and July 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Early birds welcome July 13 from 6-8 p.m. for a $25 donation purchased in advance from the parish office, 440-256-1412. Pioneer School
July 11-15

The Geauga County Historical Society will host its 44th annual Pioneer School on the grounds of Century Village Museum in Burton. Campers ages 8-12 will have the opportunity to learn the traditions, activities and culture of the early settlers of Geauga County and participate in a wide-array of pioneer activities.

Enrollment is limited. Cost is $95 per child for Society members and $115 for nonmembers. Memberships may be purchased with registration. To register, call Century Village Museum at 440-834-1492.

Concert In The Park
July 13, 7-9 p.m.

Clear Fork Bluegrass Quartet will be performing at the bandstand in Chester Township Parkside Park.

Paul Kovac, who has headed Clear Fork for nearly 25 years, is a well-known musician and teacher. This four-piece acoustic band plays Bluegrass, acoustic country songs, hot instrumentals on fiddle, banjo and mandolin.

Presented by the West Geauga Kiwanis Club in conjunction with the Chester Township Park Commission.

In event of rain, concert will be moved to Mayfield United Methodist Church, 7747 Mayfield Road, Chester Township.

 

CV Herb Society Meets
July 15, 12:30 p.m.

Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library for refreshments, business meeting and a presentation by Launie McDivitt, who will present “Two to Tangle.” Learn how to make Zentangle garden markers, unique artistic plant labels on stones from Lake Erie.

Memorial Poker Run
July 16

Registration for the seventh annual Shawn Wilkes Memorial Poker Run begins at 10:30 a.m. at Hickory Lake Tavern, 14592 Stone Road in Newbury. All vehicles welcome. Kickstands up at noon; all back by 5 p.m.

Dinner served from 4-7 p.m. Event includes music, Chinese auction and door prizes. Cost is $25 per couple or $15 per single. All proceeds benefit the Shawn Wilkes Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund.

All participants are required to sign a release prior to leaving on the run.

Claridon Community Dinner
July 19, 5-6:30 p.m.

Sloppy Joes are on the menu for this month’s dinner, held at the Claridon Township park located next to the Claridon Town Hall. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy strawberry shortcake while listening to The Great Geauga County Fairband beginning at 7 p.m.

Dinner is sponsored by Claridon Community Helps while the concert is hosted by First Congregational Church of Claridon. All donations collected will be given to the church.

Cardinal Grand Reunion
July 30, 6-10:30 p.m.

The Cardinal Alumni Association will celebrate its second annual grand reunion at Huntsburg Community Hall, 12406 Madison Road. Cost for CAA members is $25; alumni from the class of 1969 and earlier, $30 and nonmembers/guests, $35. BYOB.

Food Pantry Open

The Chesterland Food Pantry at Christ Presbyterian Church, 12419 Chillicothe Road, provides, food to low-income families and individuals who are Geauga County residents. The pantry hours are: Monday, 6:30-8 p.m.; Tuesday, 9:30-11 a.m.; Wednesday, 1-2:30 p.m.; and Thursdays, from 10-11:30 a.m. ID is required for each member of the family.

WG Soccer Club Camp
Aug. 1-5, 6-8 p.m.

West Geauga Soccer Club Summer Skills Camp will be held at West Geauga Commons. Cost is $99 for registration by July 15 and $109 after.

Camp will focus on foot skills, passing, shooting and first touch. Tactics and skills will be taught through high energy games. T-shirt included for all campers Coaches are Bill Bryan and Kori Chapic.

SNJP Hosts Polka Star Salute
Aug. 7

Celebrate the music of the late polka legend Eddie “Hambone” Habat, one of the Cleveland-Style Polka’s top accordionists and bandleaders, as the Jeff Pecon Orchestra performs at SNPJ Farm, 10946 Heath Road in Kirtland.

Father Frank Perkovich arrives from Minnesota to start the day with his popular polka Mass at 1 p.m. The orchestra will then play from 3-7 p.m. and features three-time Grammy-winner accordionist Walter Ostanek and Polka Hall of Famer accordionist Fred Kuhar. Drummer Mark Habat, Eddie’s son, joins the fun.

Enjoy home-style dinners and sandwiches and refreshments. Admission is $8 for the dance and polka Mass. Youth 18 and under are free.

Parade Participants Needed
Aug. 14

Parade participants are needed for the 82nd annual Harvest Festival Parade held at DTJ Taborville in Auburn Township. Wanted are cars, tractors, bands, drummers, horses and more.

The parade lines up at 1 p.m. and steps off at 2 p.m. Festivities begin at 11 a.m.

Kids Kickers Soccer
Wednesdays, Aug. 17 – Sept. 28

West Geauga Soccer Club will hold its Kid Kickers program for girls and boys ages 4-8 on eight consecutive Wednesdays. The one-hour sessions will consist of skills and games at Clay Eddy Fields.

The final session will be a tournament for each age group on the high school stadium turf field on Oct. 2. Coaches are Brian Murphy and Brady Dean.

The fee is $95. Space is limited. Participants will receive free practice T-shirts and medals.
