GOVERNMENT UPDATE
Because of travel schedule conflicts, the regular Chester Township Board of Trustees meeting was held at 9 a.m. Sept. 3. Meeting minutes were approved.
Because he is returning to school, part-time seasonal employee Jeff Pausch was formally terminated. Trustees thank him for his work on behalf of the township.
Ken Radtke requested the tabling of a motion for a $4,000 repair to the Fire Chief Wargelin’s response vehicle, a 1998 Durango, so he can personally look at the condition and scope of proposed repairs.
A motion to approve the resolution of tax levies and certifying them to the Geauga County Auditor was approved for the 2016 tax year, which is collected in 2017. A motion was also approved to formally notify the Chester Township Park Board of the termination of the 1993 agreement between Chester Township and the Chester Park Board.
Halloween will be from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Monies of up to $220 were approved for continuing education and travel expenses for the fiscal officer and assistant fiscal officer.
Collection of past due monies associated with drive pipe replacement work that the township performs intermittently for residents was discussed. Efforts to collect these monies of about 2 percent of total project cost and 11 percent of material cost will be escalated by a request for payment coming from the Chester Board of Trustees and fiscal officer. Placing liens on these properties was also discussed.
