CREAM CHEESE SPRITZ

Ingredients:

8 oz. cream cheese, softened

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup sugar

1 ½ teaspoons vanilla

2 cups flour

For garnish:

Sliced unblanched almonds

Sliced red or green candied cherries

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl or food processor, beat or process cream cheese, butter, sugar and vanilla until fluffy.
  2. Add flour gradually, beating or processing until thoroughly blended.
  3. Working with one cup at a time, press through cookie press or pastry bag fitted with large star tip. Press onto ungreased cookie sheet to form 1 1/2-inch cookies.
  4. Garnish with almonds and cherries by placing candied cherries in center. It then resembles a wreath.
  5. In preheated oven, bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned on edges. Cool on wire racks.

Yield: Approximately 54 cookies.

Variation: Instead of cherries or almonds, gently imprint thumb into dough and place a small amount of seedless raspberry jam on cookie.
