Swiss Steak Dinner

Feb. 10, 4-6:30 p.m.

Auburn Community Church, 11076 Washington St. in Auburn Township, will host a Swiss steak dinner and bake sale. Tickets are $11 for adults and $5 for children 5-10 years. Children under 5 are admitted free. Proceeds will go towards the purchase of a new electronic sign for the church.

LGRC Alumni Valentine’s Dinner Dance

Feb. 10, 7 p.m. to midnight

Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers Alumni Association is hosting its third annual Valentine’s Day dinner dance at Fairport Harbor Senior Center, 1380 East St., Fairport Harbor. Event includes a pasta dinner, dancing and 50-50 raffle.

Geriatric Pet Workshop

Feb. 12, 1-4 p.m.

Cold Nose Companions Dog Training is bringing veterinarian Linda Mitchell to present “Arthritis and Beyond: Caring for Your Geriatric Pet” to pet owners and professionals at its facility located at 12531 GAR Highway in Chardon.

Good Samaritan Dinner

Feb. 15, 5-6:30 p.m.

The Burton Congregational Church, UCC, Good Samaritan Dinner will be held at the church on the square in Burton. The cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-11 and free for children 3 and under.

The homemade meal consists of an entree, sides, bread, dessert and beverage. Takeout is available by calling 440-834-4495 the day of the dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds go to meet emergency needs of local families.

CV Herb Society Meets

Feb. 17, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library for refreshments, business meeting and discussion and CD presentation of Dale Chihuly Glassworks.

Aububon Highlights Native Bees

Feb. 21, 7 p.m.

Blackbrook Audubon, the local chapter of the Audubon Society covering Geauga, Lake and Ashtabula counties, will hold a program on bee identification and appreciation at Penitentiary Glen, 8668 Kirtland-Chardon Road in Kirtland. Speaker Denise Ellsworth, of Ohio State University, will focus on the biology of Ohio’s most common bees and describe their importance in pollination.

Geauga Beekeepers Meet

Feb. 23, 7 p.m.

The Geauga County Beekeepers will meet in the main lobby at the Kent State Campus at 11141 Clairdon Troy Road in Burton.

Carl Bizilla will speak on beginning bee keeping and rules for entering honey at the Geauga County Fair in September.

Food Distribution

Feb. 25, 9-11 a.m.

Cleveland Food Bank will be distributing food to families in need at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road, Chardon.

CCAT Lebron Shoe Raffle

The Chardon Community Action Team is raffling an authentic LeBron James practice shoe provided by the LeBron James Foundation.

Tickets will be sold at all home Chardon High School boys basketball games through Feb. 18. The raffle will be held during the last game.

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The winner of the raffle need not be present at the last game to win.

All monies raised will be spent to support the mission CCAT to lower tobacco, alcohol, and drugs in our youth.

Audubon Scans The Shoreline

Feb. 25, 9 a.m.

Join Blackbrook Audubon for a tour of popular birding sites along the Lake Erie shoreline. Participants will search for wintering gulls, waterfowl and other reported sightings in Fairport Harbor. Bring binoculars.

Chili Cook-off

Feb. 26, 4-6 p.m.

All are welcome to participate in a chili cook-off at Mayfield Church, 7747 Mayfield Road, Chester Township.

Judging begins at 3:30 p.m.; contestants should have their chili to the church no later than 3 p.m. Chili should be in a 5-quart Crockpot.

Cost to sample and eat is $5 per person, with a maximum $15 per family. Hot dogs, cornbread, crackers and condiments provided.

Black Knights at the Races

March 4, 5:30 p.m.

The Newbury Schools Black Knight Parent Association is hosting its second annual Black Knights at the Races at Hickory Lake Inn, 14592 Stone Road in Newbury.

Advance tickets are $15, or $20 at the door, and include dinner and non-alcoholic beverages. The evening will include race wagering, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle and cash bar.

GCBDD Hosts Night to Shine

March 22, 6 p.m.

Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities (GCBDD), known as the Metzenbaum Center, is hosting its third annual Night to Shine event on at the Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township. The event is open to all families who are enrolled in the GCBDD’s Early Intervention (EI) program and are actively receiving services.

There is no fee to participate and all enrolled families with children ages birth to 3 years are invited to attend. Families interested in participating must RSVP by calling 440-729-5250 ext. 1530 by March 6.

There will be refreshments, a DJ and several door prizes.

Spring Tree Sale

Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is holding its spring tree sale at the Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton. Both coniferous and deciduous trees seedlings are on sale, each contained in a 3x3x5-inch pot. Rain barrels and compost tumblers are also available.
