Gypsy Opens Jan. 19 at GLTG
“Gypsy” is the story of the ultimate stage mom, based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee and her years in vaudeville with a domineering stage mother. Funny and touching, it is really the story of family drama; a mother wanting the best for her girls, and not always seeing that her goals are not necessarily theirs.
The show is widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest of all American musicals, combining the Stephen Sondheim’s lyrics with Jule Styne’s music and Arthur Laurents’ rich book.
“Gypsy” runs from Jan. 19 to Feb. 4 at Geauga Theater located at 101 Water St. on Chardon Square.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sundays.
Tickets range from $10-$18 and are available online at www.geaugatheater.org, or at the box office, 440-286-2255.
Benefit Choir Recruiting Voices
It is time again for the voices of the Good Tiding Benefit Choir to come together to raise spirits and funds for the Geauga Hunger Task Force. This year marks the choir’s 29th anniversary.
All practices are held Sundays, from 2-4 p.m., at Notre Dame Chapel, 13000 Auburn Road, Munson Township. Practices start Feb. 4 and continue until the performances on March 18 and 25. Soloists are chosen from the choir members through auditions.
The choir is open to high school students and older. High school students receive community service hours for their participation.
Participants may bring their own copy of Handel’s “Messiah” or purchase through local music stores. There will be copies available at the practices for approximately $8. Soloists will be chosen from the choir at the first practice.
