Crop Walk Rally

Church groups and individuals interested in fighting world hunger are invited to an organizational meeting and Rally for the 2016 Greg Weemhoff Crop Walk in Geauga County. Come to the Claridon Congregational Church, 13942 Mayfield Road, for a light supper and a short presentation by Andrew Gifford of Church World Service. Materials will be distributed for the Crop Walk that takes place Sept. 25 at 1:30 p.m. starting at the fairgrounds in Burton.
Twenty-five percent of the funds raised are donated to the Geauga Hunger Task Force, with 75 percent to Church World Service, an ecumenical humanitarian organization focused on providing people with food and clean water. For more information, call Carane Ladd at 440-286-4671.
PCC Trash and Treasure Sale
Aug. 12-13
Parkman Congregational Church is holding its annual Trash and Treasure Sale at the church located at 18265 Madison Road.
Hours are Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, when everything is half off. Doors reopen at 12:30 p.m. when whatever remains is free.

Free Fresh Produce

Newbury United Community Church, 14961 Auburn Road, will be hosting a fresh produce giveaway.
Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID and bags.
Distributions will continue the second Saturday of the month through November.
Chardon VFW Chinese Auction

Chardon BrewFest
Aug. 13, 12-5 p.m.
The fifth annual Chardon BrewFest takes place on Chardon Square. Festivalgoers will enjoy 15 pours from a selection of 25 craft brewers from Ohio and surrounding states. Bands will supply live music all day, and food will be on sale from local eateries.
Tickets may be purchased in advance online at www.chardontomorrow.org or in person at Chardon BrewWorks or Beans Coffee Shop in town. Event updates, including a brewer map and parking recommendations, can and will be found on Facebook and Twitter. Admission is $30 advance online, $25 for six or more, or $40 at the door and includes a tasting glass. Designated drivers pay $15 for a tasting glass and unlimited soft drinks.
Before sampling, at 10 a.m., people may join in the Run for Suds 5K, which starts and ends near Heinen’s and includes an exclusive loop around Chardon Square. BrewFest admission is included with race registration of $30 advance online, $35 race day; or just run the race for $20 advance online, $25 race day.
Raccoon Co. Music Festival
Aug. 13, 12-7 p.m.
The Raccoon County Music Festival will be held at the Geauga County Historical Society’s Century Village Museum, 14653 East Park St. in Burton. A wide variety of American and international music will be presented by more than 10 live performing artists and groups on two stages.
The festival features workshops on banjo and clogging, spontaneous jamming and kite flying. Several historical buildings will be open on the grounds as well as the museum’s Crossroads Store. Food and drink will be available.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under.

Community Picnic
Aug. 13, 4-6:30 p.m.
Auburn Community Church will host a community picnic at Adam Hall in Auburn Township. Hamburgers, a variety of side dishes and beverages will be the menu. A raffle will be held to benefit the school children of Geauga County.
Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children three and under. All members and friends of the church are invited to attend.
Veterans Olde Fashion Picnic
Aug. 13, 5 p.m.
Join to honor and celebrate veterans at the Veterans Olde Fashion Picnic held indoors at St. Helen Church, 12060 Kinsman Road in Newbury.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and buffet opens at 6 p.m. Event features money tree, 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction and lottery raffle basket. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids. All veterans are guests.

Parade Participants Needed

Parade participants are needed for the 82nd annual Harvest Festival Parade held at DTJ Taborville in Auburn Township. Wanted are cars, tractors, bands, drummers, horses and more. Auburn CC Anniversary

Auburn Community Church, 11076 East Washington St., Auburn Township, invites the community to help celebrate its 175th anniversary. Members of the community will have opportunity to reflect on the history of the church. A coffee hour will follow in celebration.
DTJ Harvest Day Festival
Aug. 14
DTJ Taborville’s 82nd annual Harvest Day Festival will be held at Taborville in Auburn at the corner of Bartholomew and Quinn roads in Auburn Township. Czech foods will be served from 11 a.m.
Lineup for the parade is at 1 p.m.; the parade starts at 2 p.m. Cars, tractors, bands, drummers, horses and more participants are needed.
Music will begin at noon. Scheduled to perform are Eric and Nancy Noltkamper, Sokol Greater Cleveland Concert Band, Anthony Culka and Frank Moravcik Orchestra.
Czech beer will be available at the bar. T-shirts and other Czech items will also be for sale. No coolers, please.
There is a $5 donation at the gate for those over 12. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Golfing For Kids

Golfing for Kids, an 18-hole scramble, dinner and auction event hosted by Friends of CASA For Kids of Geauga County, will take place at Barrington Golf Club in Aurora with a 12 p.m. shotgun start.
By visiting the event website, friendsofcasa.org/golfingforkids, the public can purchase various levels of sponsorships, an individual golfer registration and guest dinner tickets. All sponsorships are tax deductible and benefit local abused and neglected children in need.
