The Chester Township Board of Trustees meeting on June 18 opened at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation by Mara McClain and Jeff Costin from CareWorksComp. CareWorksComp helps the township manage its claims from the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. They explained the cost analysis of the township and projection of costs from Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

The board also approved meeting minutes for May 21 and 26 and June 4, 11 and 16.

The board moved to sign resolutions declaring it necessary to levy a tax in excess of the ten-mill limitation for renewal of a 2.5-mill road and bridge levy and renewal of a 0.5-mill police levy.

In new business, the board discussed the local Coronavirus Relief Fund, and then moved to sign Senate Bill 310. The board moved approved up to $750 to Marino Surveying for surveying of the four parcels of township property around Parkside Park.

The West Geauga High School soccer team will be holding car washes on Aug. 1 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the town hall parking lot.

In park business, the board discussed the West Geauga Kiwanis Concerts in the Park, and moved to approve $1,800 toward the 2020 concert series. Trustees moved to approve reservations for Parkside east pavilion for a Geauga Tea Party public meeting on June 23 from 6-8 p.m. and Torchlight Youth Mentoring Alliance bubble presentation and program on July 11. In addition, West Geauga High School girls’ softball reserved the baseball diamond on June 23 from 5-8 p.m.

The board approved Blue Skies for $250 per month to clean town hall starting July 1. The meeting then adjourned.

The Chester Township Board of Trustees held a special meeting on June 25 at 3 p.m. With the recommendations of Fire Chief John Wargelin, the board unanimously approved the hiring of another full-time position to the Chester Township Fire Department. Congratulations to Martin Neary. The ability to hire the full-time fire positions was the vision of trustees and township residents; trustees thank all involved.

The meeting continued with discussion on the 2021 temporary appropriations with the department heads. The 2021 budget public hearing has been set for July 9 at 6:30 p.m.

The board then went into an executive session to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of public employees. After returning from executive session, the meeting adjourned.
