Get Down With The Town

The third annual event was held on Aug. 6. It was very successful. It is starting to look and feel like I envisioned it when I first conceived of the idea of a community gathering for Claridon.

Our community gathering is different than other communities that do the same. My vision is for ours to look and feel like that old-school community gathering – more intimate, less costly, lots of Claridonites helping and getting involved with the gathering.

Residents brought dishes to share. King Kone came and reported $1,460 in sales, however, no one had to pay for the ice cream because Claridon’s New Testament Baptist Church picked up the entire tab. It is not only a generous donation, but a fun and unique donation, so thanks go to NTBC. Claridon Community Helps brought trinkets for prizes for the carnival games and food.

A young Claridonite worked the carnival games efficiently and joyfully. Finally, a resident signed up to be on the Claridon Events Group. She was a wonderful help as well. Others from the community and the Claridon team helped, too.

If you want to help out for our community events, including Get Down with the Town, I encourage you to contact me at 216-276-8342. Events like these need to outlive my tenure as trustee and the only way that’s going to happen is if more community members help out.

NOPEC

Many township residents who signed up with another aggregate for electric earlier this year were surprised that they got kicked back into NOPEC against their will and knowledge. It happened after receiving confirmation that they were indeed enrolled with another aggregate and, in many cases, after they got their first bill from another aggregate. Many residents resolved the issue by quickly calling First Energy/Illuminating Co to switch back to their original aggregate choice, however, some residents realized it too late and now are unable to get the same rates offered earlier this year when they signed up with another aggregate.

It has been frustrating trying to get answers out of NOPEC. If this happened to anyone, I encourage you to call Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) and tell them about it. If NOPEC was the one who reenrolled any of you into their aggregation against your will, PUCO needs to know. PUCO is generally easy to communicate with.

Residents may file the complaint or concern by calling PUCO at 1-800-686-7826 during business hours Monday through Friday or by filing online at puco.oh.gov. There is a question mark at the bottom right corner of the webpage. Simply click on it and then click “file a complaint.”
