Government
All township meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. Contact us at 440-636-5486 for more information. The next meeting will be June 2.
Anyone wishing to be placed on the agenda should contact Chairman Nancy Saunders at 440-636-5486 ext. 4 or email huntsburgtwp@windstream.net.
The office is open by appointment; call ahead to schedule a visit.
Unfortunately, due to a worldwide pandemic Memorial Days services will not be held. However, flags will be placed on all veterans’ graves as in previous years. If anyone finds a marker or flag missing for a veteran, call the township office.
FROM THE FISCAL OFFICER
Fiscal Officer Michele A. Saunders reports that the township has received a $ 500 grant from its insurance company OTARMA. The money is being spent on new hand sanitizer stations for all entryways to township buildings and park restrooms.
The township has received a grant from NOPEC in the amount of $4,562. The money has been allocated to the cost of new energy efficient windows at the community center. Stage 4 of the project will be completed in the summer. All windows replaced so far have been with the help of NOPEC grants. One more stage is left to go.
Also, a grant has been secured from Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste District in the amount of $1,546 for the township’s tire recycling day, which will now be held on Sept 19.
The Amish Road Maintenance Fund of Geauga gave the township $6,150 to be used for road maintenance. The township will use the money toward the purchase of road materials.
Huntsburg Grange News
Per Gov. Mike DeWine’s orders, things are beginning to open up. The Huntsburg Grange has canceled its participation on Memorial Day and the June 20 concert.
The Grange is hopeful that Ohio residents will follow the COVID-19 Responsible RestartOhio initiative, so its remaining events can go forward. If all goes well, Fort Huntsburg Band will hold its concert on July 18, the Pomona Diner will be open at the Geauga County Fair Sept. 3-7, and the Grange will host hobo bingo at the Pumpkin Festival Oct. 3 and 4. All events are subject to change
Roads
Township maintenance is currently working on pulling in road edges, filling holes and accessing what needs to be done on each road prior to the application of dust control. Bids for dust control have been accepted.
Depending on monies available in the road and bridge fund, a decision will be made if roads will be treated.
Residents are responsible for keeping their drive pipes clean and free of debris. Please clean out pipes to keep the ditches flowing.
Call and report any serious road problem, flooding on roads, fallen limbs or other hazard the road department should be aware of. Residents may leave a message at 440-636-5486, option 1.
Zoning
Zoning Inspector Paul Tucker is available by appointment for zoning permits, exemptions, conditional use permits and variances. He may be reached by calling the township offices at 440-636-5486 ext. 3. Leave a message for a return call.
Zoning permits are required for all building projects, even agricultural buildings. Some may be exempt from fees, but still require an application to be submitted. The township does not know what one is constructing if an application is not submitted.
Zoning permit applications are available in the town hall foyer.
Summer Youth Program
Huntsburg Township will once again participate with the Geauga County Summer Youth Program. The program offers summer employment to county youths between the ages of 14 and 24 for 10 weeks and 40 hours per week.
Interested parties should contact the OhioGuideStone Summer Employment Offices at 440-729-4037 for the requirements.
Spring Cleanup, Tire Recycling Day
Cleanup and tire recycling are scheduled for the fall, Sept. 19, for Huntsburg Township residents only. The date is subject to change depending on state mandates.
